Cardinals vs. Rebels QB Matchup
Trinidad Chambliss returns at quarterback for Ole Miss after a huge 2025 season. He threw for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Chambliss also rushed for 527 yards and eight scores during the Rebels’ playoff run.
Chambliss enters 2026 with plenty of national recognition after earning SEC Newcomer of the Year honors last season. He appears on the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell, Davey O’Brien and Manning awards. His combination of production and ball security makes him a major piece for Ole Miss.
Lincoln Kienholz enters the opener as Louisville’s projected starting quarterback after transferring from Ohio State. The junior spent three seasons with the Buckeyes after arriving as a highly rated prospect from South Dakota. He now gets an opportunity to take over Louisville’s offense following Moss.
Kienholz brings limited starting experience compared with Chambliss, making this a major early test. Louisville will look to support its new quarterback with Brown and an experienced group around him. His first significant opportunity with the Cardinals comes against a top-10 opponent in Nashville.
Louisville Cardinals vs. Ole Miss Rebels bottom line: #24 Louisville brings a nine-win season and bowl victory into Nashville, while #9 Ole Miss returns major offensive production from a 13-2 team that reached the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Cardinals Rebels Free Pick: Ole Miss -6.5
Here is my Cardinals Rebels free pick: Ole Miss -6.5 gets my money, but forget the home-field angle here. This season opener is being played at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, and I still see enough advantages for the Rebels.
Ole Miss is coming off a 13-2 season and a run to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Trinidad Chambliss returns at quarterback after throwing for 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns, giving the Rebels proven leadership at the most important position.
Louisville isn’t showing up empty-handed. The Cardinals went 9-4 last season, return explosive running back Isaac Brown and added Ohio State transfer Lincoln Kienholz to take over at quarterback. Legit opponent.
Ole Miss has the more proven quarterback and enough returning offensive punch to create separation in a matchup that should stay competitive for a while.
More importantly, Kewan Lacy returns after rushing for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. Pairing him with Chambliss gives Ole Miss 2 established weapons Louisville has to account for on every series.
However, Louisville has won 3 straight games against top-11 opponents, so I’m not treating 6.5 points casually. The Cardinals can make this uncomfortable.
At the end of the day, Ole Miss has the better offensive foundation entering Game #1, and I trust that experience late.
I’ll lay the number with Ole Miss in Nashville.
