Week 10 college football sees the Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes meet at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Canes are favored by 10.5 points in this ACC Coastal Division matchup and we have a 64 showing on the total. Miami got a huge lift from Freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke as he outshined Heisman candidate Cody Pickett last weekend. The Canes found a 4-point win over Pittsburgh despite Pickett tossing 519 yards of offense against the Canes defense.
Georgia Tech has now lost 3 of their last 4 games after succumbing to Virginia Tech last time out favored by 4 points. The Jackets will have to win out the rest of the way to secure a bowl bid and they have Notre Dame and Georgia left on their schedule after BC next weekend. Geoff Collins will likely be facing a third straight losing campaign in his 3 years with the program.
How long is the leash for Coach Collins should this team finish the year with only 3 wins for a 3rd straight season? Adopting a new system is somewhat working slowly but results have got to start producing wins.
GA Tech Yellow Jackets
Sure, this program is now a little more balanced after changing the way things were done for years in Atlanta, GA. While the offense is slowly getting adjusted to the nuances of passing the ball, this defense is where the issues stand out.
The Jackets defense ranks 103rd in total yards allowed and 97th in passing yards allowed and creating turnovers is just not a thing. Georgia Tech has only created a handful of turnovers all season putting them near the bottom of the rankings.
The loss to Virginia Tech last weekend as 4-point favorites was a result of not being able to slow down the Hokies despite holding them to 4 field goals in a 26 – 17 loss. Tre Turner put up 187 receiving yards including a 69-yard scoot to the end zone which put GT behind the 8-ball early in the first quarter. Jeff Sims got the game tied up at 7 – 7 just 3 minutes later but that was the last time the game was tied as the Hokies led the rest of the way.
The Jackets were held to only 7 points in the entire first half but they did pull the game to 23 – 17 going to the 4th quarter. Jahmyr Gibbs contributed 113 yards on 11 carries for Tech as he just went over the 100-carry mark last weekend. Gibbs has toted the rock 101 times for 524 yards to lead the team but he has only been seen in the end zone twice.
Miami Hurricanes
If you missed last weekend’s Canes game against Pitt, go back and watch it! My goodness, I think we could talk about all that happened in that game for hours upon end. Cody Pickett only put up 519 passing yards for Pitt to snap the school record and then he only passed some little-known guy named Dan Marino for TD accounted for with the program too.
How does Miami top that and come away with a 38 – 34 over Pitt last weekend? Oh, how about a freshman QB named Tyler Van Dyke stepping into the spotlight and shining like a bright star! Obviously, the QB situation changed weeks ago and Van Dyke has simply taken over in a big way.
Van Dyke has a 7 – 1 TD to INT ratio over the last 2 wins and his growing confidence has reflected in the lines too. Miami is favored by double-digits over Tech and that is a lot of respect to show to a freshman who still has a lot to prove. Yes, he still has a lot to prove even after leading Miami to a win over Pitt and N.C State.
The defense came up big at just the right time as Pickett had only thrown 1 INT all season long coming into last weekend’s game with Miami. Pickett’s second INT of the game with 4 minutes left to go ultimately was what sealed the win for Miami.
Jalen Knighton converted 17 carries into 80 yards with 2 trips to the end zone to support the passing game that was well balanced. Van Dyke completed 7 balls to Rambo and 7 more to Restrepo and the two accounted for 190 yards although neither was seen in the end zone. Smith, Mallory, and Arroyo accounted for the 3 scores and Smith’s score was ultimately the game-winner.
The Canes passing offense ranks 17th putting up just over 300 YPG and they’ve done a great job of not turning the ball over in 2021. Obviously, winning the turnover battle can lead to good things although the Canes defense hasn’t created too many turnovers themselves.

4* Free Week 10 NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
I think the Hokies defense can again slow down Miami inside the red zone and limit them to FG opportunities as we saw with GT last weekend. This should be a closer game than the line setters are calling for so I am suggesting the +10.5 now that the line came up with a hook on it. It’s been 10 all week and just today it moved up to 10.5 as we get closer to the weekend.
I see all of the over trends in this spot but I don’t know if they will get there. I see a game in the 50s happening here as 64 might be too high. We’ll see!
