Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
What is happening here? I get that Jeff Sims has an ankle issue and it might either slow him down or totally keep him out of this game, but so what!? Listen, we all knew Geoff Collins needed to be fired and I told you as much the weekend before he was released.
Now, this Tech team has some fight in them that hasn’t been here for four years! That bum needed to go, and you have already seen the fire it lit in this program. Brent key knows he is surely going to be relieved of his head coaching status, but so far he is, at least, getting his kids to band together and play some decent football.
The defensive side of the ball is definitely keeping this team in all of their recent games, and wins over Pitt and Duke had them listed as only field-goal dogs last weekend against Virginia. A 16 – 9 loss may mean they didn’t cover the line, but it was 16 – 9! Now, we’re getting +24.5 against a Noles team that, in my opinion, isn’t going to smack anyone around like that.
The Jackets are playing a little more inspired and I think the defense can keep this team in the game long enough to cover this stupid of a number. Think about a 31 – 10 game? Okay, so if Tech gets held to 10 points, they might give up 4 TDs and a field goal all day to the Noles.
If you click this LINK, you’ll see the announcement made pertaining to the starting lineup for Saturday. We see Sims is in the lineup listed day-to-day and not questionable, and let me tell you what questionable means… UNLESS YOU ARE DEAD, LACE THEM UP! Questionable to me means PLAYING, whether they are 100% or not, they are likely going to be on the field. What you get? Well, we do see that both Zac’s are expected to take the field from the coaches quote, so we might see all 3 dudes take snaps.
Florida State Seminoles
Florida State has now lost 3 straight games, and sure, they kept it close against a Clemson team that looks like the best in the ACC last week. A one-possession loss isn’t so bad, but when it leads to a 3rd straight defeat it makes matters worse.
Close losses are not inspirational, and no head coach wants to say WE USE IT AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE! Learning how to lose is not the experience you want to take with you, so shut up with taking something from it ya big dummy!
I took this game this week because of the line, and I saw +23 when it opened on Sunday. Now, it is up to 24.5 like Georgia Tech is just going to get killed in Tallahassee this weekend? Stop it.
Life might be easier for the defense if Sims isn’t 100%, and we know he isn’t. Jordan Travis has good numbers on paper with the 11 to 3 TD to INT ratio, but we are 7 games into the season and he only has 2 guys with 20+ catches on the roster. Johnny Wilson needs 8 yards to go over the 500-yard mark for the campaign, but the Noles’ leading rusher Treshaun Ward sat out last week and it looks like he is out this week as well. That takes 72 carries and nearly 500 yards of ground game out of the mix, but it won’t stop Florida State from trying to run the ball.
The Seminoles rank 22nd in the nation rushing the football, and even without Ward the o-line should still be able to help create some space. Again, I just don’t think they will have a field day with the Georgia Tech run defense. I get that on paper the GT run defense ranks 102 in the land giving up some yards, but a lot of that happened early, and the Jackets are a different team now.
