Week 8 college football sees the Eagles and Monarchs meeting at Ballard Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs are favored by -2.5 points in this Sun Belt Conference matchup, and we have a 65.5 showing on the total. With each program having 3 losses entering the weekend, the victor of this affair can take one more step toward reaching bowl season and it could leave the other program behind the 8-ball.
Georgia Southern Eagles
The Eagles totals may appear as 4 – 3 to their similar record, but let’s make no mistake that we keep seeing numbers near 70 this year when Georgia Southern is on a football field. The O/U is 2 – 2 the last 4 games but this will be the 5th straight affair we see a number over 65 on an Eagles total.
This week, 65 and change should not scare you one damn bit because you are about to bet this total to fly over that when these two take the field on Saturday in Norfolk.
Clay Helton told the Eagles AD that if the option was the option they wanted to see, he would pass and go apply somewhere else. They told Coach to do whatever the hell it takes to get a 3 – 9 program back to a bowl game again. Keep in mind, the seeing the Eagles in December was a thing from 2018- 2020, and 3 straight post-season runs came to an end last year.
Kyle Vantrease played 16 seasons in Buffalo, or wait, sorry. Kyle Vantrease was at Buffalo for 5 years before deciding he wanted to give some place else a try before hanging up the boots. All Kyle has done is throw for over 2,500 passing yards with 17 TD passes, but that other number sure is a concern, right? 12? Dude, 12 of them? It makes a defensive coach’s job tough to keep when the offense keeps putting them back on the field that often.
That doesn’t even account for the fumbles, but the Eagles rank 3rd in the nation in passing yards putting up 358.7 per game. Let that sink in for all of you who remember the option days and the rushing yards would be why the offense did damage.
Old Dominion Monarchs
Old Dominion joined the Sun Belt and they never got to see the option stuff going on across the field. The last time these two programs met was way before anyone on either campus was actually on either campus and they were both at Division 2 FCS.
Now, ODU is half way to a bowl game offer and there are no ridiculous FCS cupcakes on the schedule anymore either. For years when ODU was a Conference USA program, there was Howard, Virginia Military Institute, or Albany on the slate to produce that easy win but that didn’t happen in 2022.
Old Dominion’s non-conference schedule this year includes bouts with Virginia Tech and Virginia to go with a game East Carolina outfit. Even though Liberty lost their Mr. America quarterback to the NFL, the Flames were also a part of this year’s schedule so 6 wins will certainly make the phone ring with an invitation somewhere with 6 wins.
It’s homecoming weekend, and the rest of the Sun Belt Conference schedule is not filled with any cupcakes because we’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto! Marshall took down Notre Dame in South Bend this year, James Madison is playing outrageous 1st-yaer FBS football, and we all know that the match with Appalachian State down the stretch is going to provide one hell of a test for this Monarchs program. Favored this weekend? Yeah, so? Do you think they wanted that?
Rocky Rahne has seen his team take the field as an underdog for almost his entire tenure with ODU. This is his 3rd year, and you know that first 1- 11 campaign didn’t exactly set a good tone going into last year. Rahne got his team to battle back and earn a bowl bid last year, despite the 30 – 17 loss to Tulsa in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

4* Free Georgia Southern Eagles vs. Old Dominion Monarchs NCAA Football Betting Final Analysis:
Touchdown! Touchdown! Hey, another touchdown and all of a sudden it’s 14 – 7 and we haven’t even ordered a coke yet. Now, get a hot dog with that soda, at least, come back to your seat but when you left they scored 14 more and now you are taking your seat for a 21 – 14 game, and the second quarter just started! Enjoy the rest! Play the 1st Half total or the game number, because either one is bringing you the cash!
Where do you think I am going here? Hmm hmm, you do it, Junior, read between those lines!
