Fromm was one Tua Tagovailoa emergence, and perhaps Jalen Hurts’ Crimson swan song, from bringing UGA the country’s richest prize. Owning a 35-7 record during his Athens tenure, Fromm’s draft stock currently falls somewhere in the second round. Former Bulldogs Andrew Thomas, D’Andre Swift, Ben Cleveland and J.R. Reed each rate among the 100 top 2020 NFL Draft prospects.
Even with talent lost, elite newcomers and key transfer portal adds still place Kirby Smart’s group among SEC East leaders. Though, a rebuilt front pocket will decide if the Dawgs can secure another division crown.
Needing emergent talent amid offensive uncertainty, recent signees Kelee Ringo, Broderick Jones, Jalen Carter, and Darnell Washington each carry five-star pedigree as they ready for life between the hedges.
Supporting this national-leading cast are four-star newcomers Kendall Milton, Jalen Kimber and Major Burns. Just outside choice scouting status, frosh running back Milton will push incumbents Zahir White and James Cook for alpha carries among a three-tier backfield.
Though, alongside his patchwork O-Line, transfer QB Jamie Newman is Georgia’s biggest x-factor. If Newman gains protection, the senior’s dual threat adds a dimension lacking with Fromm. Last season, Newman added 26 TD (five rushing) and 522 ground yards among the Atlantic Coast stage.
Newman led his Demon Deacons to an 8-5 record, and late-December bowl appearance vs. Michigan State. It’s imperative the 6’4, 230 lb. signal caller establish rapport with top receivers George Pickens, Demetris Robertson and Matt Landers.
2020 Georgia Bulldogs Predictions: Team Strengths: Defense & two-way potential
Posting 2019’s top defense, the Bulldogs expect similar results this year. Minus graduate J.R. Reed, UGA returns and welcomes enough rugged point-stoppers to make second-year defensive coordinator Dan Lanning’s job simple.
A rising star, Lanning touts prized additions Ringo, Carter, Washington and Mekhail Sherman alongside vets Malik Hering, Richard LaCounte, Monty Rice, Erik Stokes, etc. to form another grating Athens collective.
When factoring an elite recruiting binge, tried coaching infrastructure, and returning NFL-caliber defenders, Georgia needs just slight offensive upgrade to outlast SEC competition.
The Dawgs’ freshmen, blocking and latest QB, will be tested early by perennial side-thorn Alabama.
Though, if Newman’s line clicks, Georgia has potential to be a more versatile group than any from the Jake Fromm era.
2020 Georgia Bulldogs Predictions: Team Weaknesses: Offensive cohesion and curtailed practice time.
If any national contender needed spring reps, and offseason familiarity, it was Georgia. Unfortunately, social distancing has delayed early practice while no timetable exists as of this writing regarding when camps will open.
That stated, Georgia’s makeshift offense could struggle early vs. cohesive units, and specifically SEC West power Alabama.
After losing four 2019 starting offensive lineman, the Dawgs’ new pocket must gel quick to maximize Jamie Newman’s dual strikes. At best, Newman can confuse defenses, either by hitting deep-threats Pickens and Robertson, or by scrambling and challenging opposing linebackers with downhill size.
At worst, Newman will find rare pocket time against the nation’s lead rush attacks. Though, expect middling offensive results as experienced reserve O-linemen Jamaree Salyer, Ben Cleveland and Justin Shaffer join frosh Xavier Truss and lone-returning starter Trey Hill up front. Look for transfer TE Tre McKitty to throw his capable hands and 6’5 245 lb. frame into the blocking mix.

Georgia Bulldogs Prediction: 2nd in the SEC & a 10-2 record (Bet Now at any of our Reviewed Online Sportsbooks!)
Facing eight 2019 bowl eligible teams, Georgia will use defensive guile and timely offense to outlast most of its schedule. However, Alabama and Florida will frustrate the Dawgs’ front line while adding enough offense to secure wins away from Sanford.
Additionally, South Carolina, Auburn and improved Tennessee will push the Dawgs. Yet, by virtue of a manageable schedule outside UF and Alabama, expect a second-place SEC East finish, and top 10 final AP ranking from Georgia as the group becomes stronger each week.
