No. 23 Texas A&M heads to Baton Rouge Saturday night to face No. 10 LSU at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM ET on ABC, with both teams looking for their first SEC win.
The Aggies enter 2-1 after opening with victories over Missouri State and Arizona State before falling 31-21 to Kentucky. Saturday is their first road game of the season.
And naturally, that first road trip is Death Valley at night.
A&M finally packs the road uniforms, and the SEC sends the Aggies directly into Death Valley after dark. Very considerate.
LSU is also 2-1 and 0-1 in conference play. The Tigers beat Clemson 51-10 and Louisiana Tech 45-14 at home before losing 32-24 at Ole Miss last Saturday.
The Tigers return home trying to answer their own first loss.

LSU has scored 120 points through three games while producing more than 500 yards of offense per game. The Tigers have shown balance, with Sam Leavitt directing the passing game and Dilin Jones giving Lane Kiffin a reliable option on the ground.

Bussey suffered a season-ending lower-body injury on the opening kickoff against Kentucky after entering the game as A&M’s second-leading receiver. His absence also removes an important piece of the return game for the Aggies’ first road test.
Reed has thrown for 632 yards and six touchdowns through three games. Rueben Owens II leads the current rushing production with 186 yards, while Craver has 19 catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Aggies vs. Tigers QB Matchup
Sam Leavitt arrived at LSU after two seasons at Arizona State and immediately showed why Lane Kiffin wanted him. He’s thrown for 732 yards through three games while remaining dangerous enough as a runner that defenses can’t simply sit on the passing game.
His LSU debut was the full demonstration.
Leavitt threw for 230 yards against Clemson, rushed for another 113 and accounted for three touchdowns. He hasn’t been as clean since, with five interceptions on the season, but the mobility remains a major part of LSU’s offense.
Marcel Reed brings plenty of dual-threat ability himself.

Here is my Aggies Tigers free pick: I’m taking LSU -8.5. Texas A&M’s first road game comes at Death Valley at night, one week after Kentucky gave the Aggies plenty to clean up. That’s not exactly the recovery assignment I’d request.
LSU’s defensive front is the matchup I like most. The Tigers have 13 sacks through three games, while Marcel Reed has already thrown three interceptions and now heads into this environment without Terry Bussey.
Death Valley at night is difficult enough without arriving there immediately after your offense took a step backward.
Sam Leavitt hasn’t been perfect, but LSU doesn’t need him throwing the ball 40 times to cover this number. Dilin Jones and Leavitt give the Tigers enough on the ground to keep A&M’s defense occupied.
The Aggies are talented enough to hang around for a while. Over four quarters, I trust LSU’s defense and home-field pressure to create the separation.
