Can the defense lead a team without much experience on the offensive side of the ball?
2018 Central Michigan Chippewas Predictions: Team Strengths
Athleticism on the defensive line: The Chippewas defense will start up front with a talented group of defensive lineman.
At the start of the 2017 season both defensive tackles needed to be replaced. Who stepped up? Nate Brisson-Fast.
As a junior, he started 8 games and logged 36 tackles with 5 and a half sacks. If he is able to start all 12 games he could reach 8 or 9 sacks this year and contend for an All-MAc spot.
Another key piece of the D-line will be Mitch Stanitzek. The former TE racked up 3 and a half sacks last year to go with 39 tackles and 4 QB hurries. I think 5 sacks should be an attainable goal for the talented defensive end.
Look for former Arizona signee Marcus Griffin to come in and make a lot of big plays, as he was a top 75 defensive tackle in his recruiting class.

Dual-threat talent at QB?: The Chippewas benefited from prototype passer Shane Morris, the former #3 QB and Michigan transfer.
He made a lot of big plays all season long but turned in a stinker in the bowl game, as he had 6 turnovers in the loss.
While the passing numbers will go down, I expect sophomore Tony Poljan to make a lot of excellent plays with his feet.
The former top 50 QB recruit even got a start at wide receiver last season, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him run for over 500 yards in 2018.
If he can stay healthy then we could be looking at a player that can throw for 2,500 and run for 500 en route to an All-Conference nod.
2018 Central Michigan Chippewas Predictions: Team Weaknesses
Lack of Experience: Central Michigan benefited from a very experienced team on their way to a bowl game last year.
This year they are one of the least experienced teams in the country and the offensive line brings back just 36 combined starts, which is 13th worst in the nation.
The lack of experience will play a big part in the growth of this team, as they will face a tougher road conference schedule without any experience at the QB spot.
If the offensive line can gel early, it should help the running game and keep the defense from having to stay on the field for long stretches.

Central Michigan Chippewas Prediction: 5-7
The Chippewas will have to fight to get to a bowl, but I don’t see them being a force in the West Division this year.
Their second game of the year against Kansas will be a toss-up game because Kansas is the worst Power 5 school and it’s not even close.
Road games at Akron, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo could all mean trouble for this team late in the season.

If Central Michigan has a few balls bounce their way they could get to 7 wins, but I don’t see that happening.
