While teams like the Nets, Raptors, and Heat drew brutal starting schedules the Hawks have played the Rockets, Magic, Hornets, and Pistons twice! ALL teams expected to tank the season (Charlotte may try for a play-in seed but not if they fall too far behind).
That they rank 14th defensively facing that quintet of opponents is a bit troubling as it indicates this iteration of the Hawks still isn’t as committed defensively as they need to be.
There are specific red flags as well with the team ranking 23rd in rebound percentage and Trae Young still searching for his perimeter efficiency. Young shot better on Friday but on the season he’s still well below his career average (29.2 percent).
Milwaukee Bucks
If you bet on the Bucks as your Eastern Conference representative and/or the NBA champion – pat yourself on the back. At least in the early going the Bucks look to be the strongest team in the East.
Their 4-0 record is one thing but the fact they’re winning games against elite teams despite missing Khris Middleton and Pat Connaughton speaks to the clubs’ constancy, chemistry, and this really great player we call the Greek Freak!
The fact, they rank first defensively isn’t a surprise but it does offer additional confidence this team has a vested interest in winning the conference and another title.

Milwaukee ranks sixth at fewest opponent points in the paint while Atlanta tops the leaderboard for fewest opponent fast break points. Whoever stays closest to that identity will have the edge in the match.
Even with Middleton and Connaughton out the Bucks bench scores more than Atlanta which could also be an x-factor. Either way, I like the Bucks and Giannis to keep their win streak alive.
