To start the right defense could be the difference between winning and losing this week – choose wisely!
So which Stud defenses are locks for a big week?
Let’s take a look at the top 5 Fantasy D/ST plays for Week 5.
1. Arizona Cardinals
vs. Detroit Lions
The Cardinals have been ridiculous defensively this season although they gave up some plays in a loss to St. Louis last week. My guess is that the disappointing loss last week acts as a catalyst this week.
Arizona gets a shot at a Detroit defense that looks completely out of sync right now. Matt Stafford will be sacked Sunday, Patrick Peterson will shut Megatron down and the rushing situation will be dysfunctional as usual.
Detroit ain’t great folks – they will have a miserable time against Arizona’s stout stop unit.
2. Denver Broncos
vs. Oakland Raiders
The Denver Broncos are undefeated because of the defense – period! Demarcus Ware and Vonn Miller have been absolute terrors – this team can get to the quarterback better than any team in the NFL right now.
Denver’s secondary has also been very good so far – they have allowed just two passing TDs against all season – Denver is #1 against the pass. Enter the Oakland Raiders who have an improved offense but are still prone to mistakes.
The Broncos are an every-week start from now on – they will generate sack and they will force a couple of turnovers.
3. New York Giants
vs. SF 49ers
This play is as much about how poor the 49ers are offensively than how good the G-Men are on defense. I mean – did you watch the 49ers against Green Bay last week? Absolutely putrid.
Colin Kaepernick is the worst rated QB among starters in the NFL, Carlos Hyde has zero room to run and the average Wide Receivers won’t get the ball anyway. The Giants take advantage and hold the 49ers out of the end zone for the second straight week.
New York is a tremendous plug and play this week!
4. Seattle Seahawks
vs. Cincinnati Bengals
It is amazing the difference that one guy can make for a team – example Kam Chancellor who has turned the Seahawks around with his presence. In two games since ending his contract dispute Seattle has not surrendered an offensive TD.
Don’t be all that concerned about Cincinnati’s offense here – my guess is that they cough it up a couple of times and that Andy Dalton, when faced with pressure will show some cracks.
Seattle’s defense is back folks – not a good sign for the rest of the league.
5. Buffalo Bills
vs. Tennessee Titans
The Bills defense has been disappointing but has a chance to right itself this week against Marcus Mariota and the Titans. Tennessee hasn’t been able to run the ball all season – don’t expect that to change in Week 5.
Marcus Mariota has been OK but the rookie should be due for a couple of game changing mistakes against a Bills team that absolutely needs a bounce back performance on home turf.
Rex Ryan will have something up his sleeve and the owners of the Bills D/ST will be rewarded handsomely Sunday.
