This pick is as much about the state of the Rams’ offense as it is about Arizona’s stellar defense. Simply put St. Louis is in shambles offensively – even Todd Gurley gained just 19 yards last week against the Bengals. Nick Foles is a turnover machine, the Rams O-line has been battered and bruised and the Cardinals have been generally very solid all season long (they have yet to allow more than 88 yards rushing on the road).
Arizona’s should feast this week as they hold St. Louis to under 14 points and force numerous mistakes along the way.
The Bengals have the pleasure of playing a Cleveland team that found a new way to lose last week – all of the wind may be out of their sails as we head into Week 13. Add in the fact that Austin Davis may be the starting QB for Cleveland and this looks like a pretty good spot for the Bengals defense! Cleveland can’t run the ball and their receivers don’t match up well at all against the Bengals secondary. I expect the Browns to struggle mightily this week and for the Bengals to get their share of sacks, interceptions and maybe even a forced fumble along the way.
The Broncos play the Chargers this week. San Diego’s “strength” plays right into the hands of the Broncos defense. It is hard to imagine Dontrelle Inman, Malcolm Floyd and Stevie Johnson getting anything going against the best pass defense in the league. I am not expecting running back Melvin Gordon to get much going either – the Chargers haven’t scored on the ground this year! Amazing. The Broncos pass defense held Tom Brady in check last week – Sunday’s game will seem like a walk in the park after that!
The Patriots are at home this week where they are virtually unbeatable to take on the free-falling Philadelphia Eagles – a team that has been prone to turnovers all season long. The Pats will have some extra motivation as well after dropping their first game of the season last week. The Eagles have been junk folks – not impressive at all. With the master Bill Belichick at the helm I expect the Pats to make Chip Kelly and his offense look silly. The only thing we have to worry about is garbage time yards!
The Panthers have been terrific defensively all season long – they are a mismatch for every team in the NFL and HAVE to be in the top 5. This week they face a sporadic, inconsistent New Orleans Saints offense that didn’t even score a touchdown last week.
The Panthers should dominate this game on offense and preventing the defense from doing a lot of the heavy lifting.
Carolina is a legit Super Bowl contender in 2016 –as good a defense as there is in the game right now and an offense that does a job of supporting their stellar D.
