Golf Betting – PGA heads to Pacific Palisades
Our Sportsbooks: With Tiger Woods absent from the field at Pebble Beach last week, Phil Mickelson was anointed the clear tournament favorite. However, those that did any golf betting on Lefty to capture the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am didn’t come close to any winnings.
Mickelson shot a 71 in the first round of that tournament, a 72 in the second round, and then an ugly 78 on the third day to miss the cut for Sunday’s final round. That left Mickelson in a tie for 121st place in a tournament he’d won in 1998, 2005, and 2007. So with Mickelson floundering, which golfers actually had good tourneys at Pebble Beach?
Well, Vijay Singh didn’t do too badly – at least until the very last holes of the event. Singh looked like he was going to cruise to the tournament victory until he bogeyed three of the last four holes to put himself in a first-place tie with Steve Lowery at 10-under. Lowery then won his first event in over seven years with a birdie in the playoff.
Corey Pavin, John Mallinger, and Dudley Hart all finished one stroke behind the leaders at 9-under, with Jason Day at 8-under, and both Nicholas Thompson and Dustin Johnson at 6-under. Jason Gore, Joe Ogilvie, Tag Ridings, Brent Geiberger, and Y.E. Yang all finished the event at 5-under on a mostly nondescript tournament leaderboard.
Mickelson and Singh will both be looking to bounce back this week when they take part in the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Formerly called the Nissan Open, this tournament has had higher-profile winners over the past five years – Charles Howell III in 2007, Rory Sabbatini in 2006, Adam Scott in 2005, and Mike Weir in both 2003 and 2004. Ernie Els got the win there back in 1999.
Howell won the Nissan Open in a playoff over Mickelson last year, after shooting a 65 in the final round to force the extra holes. Els, Robert Allenby, and Jim Furyk were three strokes back of the leaders at 13-under, and Sergio Garcia ended the week at 11-under.
So who are all the favored golfers to win the Nissan Open in 2008? (Odds To Win)

Adam Scott 14/1
Rory Sabbatini 16/1
Jim Furyk 20/1
