A pair of unfamiliar teams face off in Edmonton as the Oilers look to extend their winning streak to three games in front of their home crowd Friday night.
With 42 points, the Tampa Bay Lightning currently find themselves outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.
The Lightning haven’t been playing like the same Lightning team that won the Eastern Conference last year, and some changes are needed if they want to get back to the postseason.
The Atlantic Division is still wide open as 2nd and 6th place are separated by just seven points, but the Lightning have had a difficult time stringing together a winning streak.
Tampa Bay is mediocre on offense, and the defense has been disappointing, especially as of late. Nikita Kucherov leads the team with 30 points, but that doesn’t even crack the top-30 across the league.
Ben Bishop will look to right the ship for the Lightning, who’ve lost four of their last six games overall. Bishop comes in with a record of 15-13-3, a GAA of 2.06 and a save percentage of .924.
The Oilers are sitting in the cellar of the Pacific Division with 37 points, but they’re only five points out of second place.
With the exception of the L.A. Kings coasting by 10 points over 2nd place Arizona, the Pacific is wide open, and the Oilers are looking to make things interesting before the All Star break.
Edmonton comes into this contest winners of two in a row, led in large part by a defense that has only allowed four goals over its last three games.
The Oilers have played extremely well against the Eastern Conference this year, posting a record of 8-2 when hosting Eastern Conference opponents.
Edmonton is also 12-7-1 inside Rexall Place this season, and the team’s play at home has salvaged what could easily be an even more miserable first half of play.
Edmonton’s goal differential of -20 ranks next to last in the Western Conference, something goaltender Cam Talbot is hoping to improve when the Oilers take on the Lightning.
Talbot, who came through in the clutch as the New York Rangers’ backup last season, will get the start for Edmonton. He comes in with a record of 7-11-2 and a GAA of 2.76.

Edmonton has dominated the Eastern Conference this year, so who’s to say the Oilers can’t keep it up against Tampa Bay?
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Edmonton ML
The Oilers haven’t had much going well for them this season, but playing at home against the Eastern Conference has been one of them. The Oilers have 12 wins at home and 8 of them have come against Eastern Conference foes.
This is a great price for an Edmonton team that doesn’t get a lot of action.
