The Colorado Avalanche will host the St. Louis Blues in a Central Division matchup on Wednesday night as both teams look to gain ground on the Dallas Stars.

The Avs are looking to build off their win against the L.A. Kings, while the Blues are hoping to snap their three-game skid.
St. Louis
The St. Louis Blues come into this matchup with 51 points, nine points behind first-place Dallas in the Central Division.
The Blues have fallen on hard times lately by dropping their last three games, and they’ve had a difficult time scoring as well.
Even though Jake Allen and Brian Elliott have been stable in goal, the Blues have been leaving them out to dry by failing to put the puck in the net.

St. Louis has endured an especially tough stretch on the road recently, scoring just six goals in its last four road games. It’s tough to win on the road when your team is only averaging 1.5 goals per game.
But the Blues still have Vladimir Tarasenko, whose 41 points are tied for 5th in the NHL.
Allen is expected to get the start in this one. He comes in with a record of 18-10-2 with a commanding five shutouts and a save percentage of .926.
Colorado
The Avs will look to capitalize off their 4-1 win over the L.A. Kings Monday night, but it won’t be an easy task taking out the Blues. Colorado has struggled at home this season, posting a record of just 7-9-3 inside the Pepsi Center.
But the Avs have fared well when playing within the division, winning 7 of 10 games vs. the Central, including a 3-1 win over St. Louis on Dec. 13.

Colorado ranks 6th in the league in GPG and 5th in shooting percentage, but the Avalanche have been inconsistent for most of the season when it comes to scoring.
They managed to score four goals against the Kings, but backup goalie Jhonas Enroth was in net for L.A. The Avs were also shutout 4-0 to the Calgary Flames the game before, and they’re a team that gives up goals at will.
Colorado’s Matt Duchene is tied for 9th in the NHL with 18 goals and he’s tallied five points in his last four games, including a goal and an assist against the Kings.
Let’s see if he and the rest of the Avalanche can keep that going Wednesday night.
