Two teams that are struggling badly are each hoping to turn their luck around as the Colorado Avalanche welcome the Montreal Canadiens to town.

Montreal
The Canadiens continue to fall further and further into the abyss after an embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes Monday night. It was Montreal’s 11th loss in its last 15 games. It was also another ugly road loss for the Canadiens who are now 1-6 in their last seven games away from home.
Goaltending continues to plague the Canadiens as both Mike Condon and Ben Scrivens have struggled badly during Carey Price’s absence. Montreal has allowed 21 goals over its last four road games.
It’s impossible to win when your defense is giving up more than five goals per game which has been Montreal’s case lately on the road. The Habs are 5th in shots on goal allowed and 4th on the penalty kill, but the goaltending has been atrocious.

Montreal has been outscored 21-10 over its last four games and continues to struggle against Western Conference foes. The Habs are just 5-12-1 versus the West this year, including a 2-6-1 mark against Central Division opponents.
Colorado
The Avalanche were one of the NHL’s highest-scoring teams before the All-Star break but have gone ice cold since. The Avalanche are barely averaging 2 goals per game since returning from the All-Star break and have yet to win at home since Jan. 22.
Luckily for the Avs, they’re hosting a Montreal team that has been atrocious on the road lately.
At 2.64 goals per game, Colorado and Montreal are pretty much even offensively, though the Avs are averaging three fewer shots per game fewer than Montreal.
Despite their recent struggles, the Avalanche are still in a strong spot. With 62 points, Colorado is tied for seventh place in the Western Conference and is just two points out of fifth.
The Avalanche know they need to win the easier games on their schedule if they want a shot at the postseason, and this is a very winnable game for them.

Free NHL Hockey Prediction
Both teams enter this game on some pretty bad slides, but I think the home team will prevail. Colorado has a much more realistic playoff chance than Montreal and knows how important these two points are.
