Nashville is in a battle for a playoff seat at the ¾ mark of the season, sitting in a tie with 67 points in the Central Division with Winnipeg, though with three games at hand.
Edmonton is currently second in the Pacific Division, and will look to close the three point gap that separates themselves and the first place San Jose Sharks.
Edmonton Oilers
Connor McDavid has maintained a two-point lead over Sidney Crosby for the league’s best in points for seemingly a month now. He continues to place his team on his back and drive them into a favorable playoff seed.
In terms of players who hate to win, Connor McDavid is quickly establishing himself as one of the top in this regards. Every speedbump the team has faced, McDavid has responded with an incredible effort and willed his team along.

He is slowly becoming part of the Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby, etc. conversation for this.
McDavid’s 68 points lead the next best Oiler’s, Leon Draisaitl, by 15. Draisaitl has developed into a great offensive weapon for the Oil, and help offset the season struggles from the likes of Jordan Eberle, Milan Lucic, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
In net, Cam Talbot has been a star performer for the organization this season.
Talbot owns a 2.36 GAA and a .921 SV% with five shutouts in 2016-17. Talbot, along with the revamped defensive unit, have helped the Oilers to a 7th overall ranking in goals against, at a 2.5 per game average.
Nashville Predators
The Predators sit 10th overall in goals per game at 2.9, one spot ahead of the Oilers and their 2.8. It’s interesting that the Preds, who have long been known for their defensive play, rank more favorably in the offensive category than their 15th place slotting in goals against.
The scoring has largely come by way of committee in Nashville, with Ryan Johansen leads the Preds’ stat sheet with 43.
The #1 center is followed closely by his winger, Filip Forsberg, who has 42 and fellow winger, Viktor Arvidsson, at 41. The trio on the first line has combined for 126 total points.
The backend certainly took a hit when new addition, P.K. Subban, was lost for nearly a month in December-January. He has certainly looked to be back to full health of late, making his presence known with nine points in his past seven games.

Pekka Rinne has once again handled the bulk of the starts for Nashville this season, owning a 2.48 GAA and a .916 SV% on the year, with 23 wins in 46 appearance.
His heir-apparent and fellow-Finn, Juuse Saros, has performed admirably in the back-up role, with a 2.22 GAA and a .929 SV% in his 14 games played.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Oilers sit 7th overall in goals against per game at 2.5
- Edmonton is 18-10-5 on the road
- Edmonton has a total goal differential of plus-17 this year
- Connor McDavid leads the league with 68 points
- Nashville is 17-7-7 at home
- Nashville is 5-4-1 in their 10 games
Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Nashville Predators NHL Hockey Prediction:
This should be a fun battle to watch versus two quality teams, something that could not be said just a couple years ago with Nashville playing a pure defensive game and the Oilers with McDavid in the lineup.
Both teams rank favorably in both goals for and goals against, receiving great goaltending in the process.
