The Calgary Flames, fresh off a matchup against the New Jersey Devils, head north to Canada to take on the Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton will be fresh and rested after a night off and will look to get the jump on Calgary in Rogers Place.
Calgary Flames
The Flames’ offense was starting to look great during a seven-game stretch, but has faltered recently. In the last four games, Calgary has just eight total goals and has seemingly lost a step on that end of the ice.
The team ranks 15th in the league in goals with 117 and its star forward hasn’t had the best five game stretch. Johnny “Hockey” Gaudreau has just a goal and an assist over the last five games, giving him 10 and 17 on the season.

As good as he can be, he hasn’t looked that impressive recently, and it’s clearly affecting the Flames.
Gaudreau’s main help, Mikael Backlund, has been slightly better in the last few games but even he hasn’t been at his best. He has a goal and four assists in the last five games, but will look to get going on the goal-scoring front to help Calgary hand the Oilers a loss.
If guys like Sean Monahan and Sam Bennett and wingers Matthew Tkachuk and Kris Versteeg can also get going, the Flames should have a good shot at beating Edmonton.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are winners of three out of five, including a 3-2 overtime win over New Jersey.
Sitting 3rd in the Pacific Division, Edmonton has had a decent year but needs to pick things up in order to ensure a playoff birth.
The Oiler offense has been the team’s strong suit all season, but the defense leaves much to be desired. Edmonton has given up 120 goals this year, putting the team 19th in the NHL in that category.
The defense has good and bad days, but the inconsistency has really hurt the team.

The Oilers gave up five goals in back-to-back games against the Senators and the Sharks. As good as the offense can be, it’s tough to win games when giving up that many goals.
On offense, Connor McDavid continues to show why he’s already one of the best players in the world. This season, he has 14 goals and 36 assists.
In his last five games, he doesn’t have a goal but he does have an impressive seven assists.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Calgary is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 games at home
- The OVER is 3-1-1 in Edmonton’s last five games
Free Calgary Flames vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Hockey Prediction:
Edmonton will be well-rested, while Calgary will be on the second night of a back-to-back. With guys like McDavid and Leon Draisaitl going at the Calgary defense, I like Edmonton to take the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Edmonton ML
Edmonton has looked the better team recently and should have a good shot to win on its home ice. I like the Oilers money line for this one.
