Buffalo is now in a hunt for a wildcard spot in the East, albeit a touhg task as they sit six points back of the final seed. It will be interesting to see what approach management takes at the trade deadline.
Arizona, on the other hand, is firmly out of the picture and playing for a draft lottery spot. The Coyotes figure to sell off non-core parts as their rebuild continues.
Buffalo Sabres
GM Tim Murray has never been shy to make a big splash, so Buffalo should certainly be an entertaining team to watch come next week’s trade deadline.
The Sabres have a lot of big names on the roster, but currently sit six points back of a playoff spot.
One name that has been long-rumored to be on the block is winger Evander Kane, who’s off-ice issues have reportedly dissatisfied the management group.

The winger leads the team with 21 goals, however, and is still just 25 years old with a 30-goal season to his name.
The defensive unit, including the goaltending, have performed well this season.
The Sabres currently rank 13th overall in goals against a 2.7 per game. Rasmus Ristolainen leads the back-end with 36 points, looking to improve on an impressive 41 points season last year and subsequently being rewarded with a sizable contract this past summer.
The goaltending play of Robin Lehner and Anders Nilsson have both been excellent, as mentioned. Lehner has a .925 SV% and a 2.55 GAA and Nilsson a .922 SV% and 2.67 GAA, respectively.
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes are in a tough battle for positioning, though one they probably would rather not be in. Arizona has collected just 49 points on the year, good for second last in the NHL, and are in the hunt for a top lottery pick.
The Coyotes are obviously out of the hunt this year and realize they’re building towards the future, so tanking and selling off what assets they can is what GM John Chayka will try to accomplish come the deadline.
Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan appear to be the veteran forward assets most likely to be dealt. Radim Vrbata is having a nice season and could provide a secondary scoring option for a contender as well.

The Coyotes rank 27th in goals per game and 28th in goals against, so there isn’t one glaring need to address, rather every position could use improvements.
The back-end has a nice stable of young defenseman between Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jakob Chychrun, Anthony DeAngelo and Connor Murphy.
The forward corps will have more influx of top young talent in the coming years, namely World Junior standouts Clayton Keller and Dylan Strome.
Mike Smith owns a 2.92 GAA and a .915 SV% on the season, playing behind one of the league’s worst teams. The veteran is likely to stay in Arizona due to his cap hit.
NHL Betting Trends:

Free Buffalo Sabres vs. Arizona Coyotes NHL Hockey Prediction:
Neither of these two teams have scored at a high clip this season, with Buffalo checking in at 24th overall in goals per game at 2.4, and Arizona even worse at 2.3.
Moreover, Buffalo hasn’t scored more than three goals in any game since February 7th, a span of seven games.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
