2015-16 Football Previews – (SEC) – Commodores
It’s time for the 2015 Vanderbilt Commodores season to open in less than a week. Vanderbilt is far from competing in the SEC. Finishing 3-9 last season, Vanderbilt can expect a similar fate in 2015. Do they have any potential to turn things around this season and atleast make a bowl appearance?

SEC 2015-2016 College Football Preview – Vanderbilt
Head Coach: Derek Mason
2014 Record: 3-9
Vanderbilt Odds to SEC: 300/1
Wins over Massachusetts, Charleston Southern, and Old Dominion highlighted the Commodores 2014 season. Yikes! Vanderbilt was essentially wiped away in all their other contests and pretty much haven’t done anything to improve themselves heading into 2015.
It’s first off tough to compete with all other schools as far as recruiting goes when your 3 wins last season were against that class.
Vanderbilt averaged only 17.2 points a game which ranked 119th in the nation. If that wasn’t bad enough, Vandy’s defense allowed 33.3 points against, which ranked 106th in the country.
This team was bad in all aspects of the game in 2014.
A new season: It’s tough to justify many strengths of a 3-9 team, who only beat bottom tier teams in the NCAA and was nearly outscored by double.
However, it’s a new year for Vanderbilt. They return their starting QB in Sophomore Johnny McCrary, who threw for 985 yards in 2014. He threw for 9 touchdowns, which isn’t bad considering his team only averaged 17 points a game.
They also have Ralph Webb returning as a Sophomore here in 2015. Webb rushed for 907 yards and 4 touchdowns in his freshman season.
With what was essentially an all freshmen offense in 2014, the returning starters are at least another year mature and have some experience under their belt.
Schedule: The Commodores get an even tougher schedule in 2015. They open with Western Kentucky, who is projected to be a top team in C-USA and has one of the most dangerous pass games in the NCAA.
They also get Middle Tennessee as part of their non conference slate. They too are a tough physical team that will prove to be a problem for Vandy.
Their easiest game is Austin Peavy. With a win likely there, it wouldn’t be shocking to see this be the only win for Vandy in 2015. A conference win would likely have to come Nov. 14 against Kentucky. However, the Wildcats are vastly improved.
2015 Vanderbilt Prediction: 1-11
It’s just not there for Vandy once again. They have some experience for their underclassmen now, but they need a lot of help to even considering competing.
Their non conference schedule features mid majors like Western Kentucky and Houston who are much better on both sides of the ball than Vandy.
As far as their SEC schedule home games against Missouri, Georgia, and A&M don’t matter as those 3 will likely run over Vandy.
Give Vandy another year or so to develop and recruit and they could be back in at least the competition talk for a bowl birth.
However, a lot of recruiting will need to be done going forward.
