The Ducks were able to fend off both the Edmonton Oilers, but will they be able to top them in Round 2 of this playoff series?
The matchup features a number of elite offensive talents, highlighted by superstar, Connor McDavid, who managed four points in six games in his first round of NHL playoffs.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton’s youngsters now have an NHL playoff series under their belt, a tough series in which they performed admirably and took care of a team who reached the Cup Finals last year.
The play of Edmonton’s depth forwards was strong, seeing the likes of Zack Kassian net a couple game winners, as did one of the most recent Oiler additions, David Desharnais.

The depth will certainly look to replicate their performance, but a key to an Oilers victory is for their top players to outpace the top-6 group of Anaheim’s.
The second-line of Nugent-Hopkins, Lucic and Eberle will need to step-up after accounting for just three combined points last series.
Connor McDavid netted four points in six games, but had a number of grade-A scoring chances that certainly could’ve upped that total. The Anaheim defense situation will be one to watch, as top d-man Cam Fowler has been sidelined but is eying a return in short order which could increase the challenge for McDavid and the Oil.
Cam Talbot performed very well against the Sharks, aside from one poor showing in a 7-0 loss. Even despite that game, he was able to finish the series with a .927 SV% and 2.03 GAA with two shutouts.
Edmonton will be looking for more of the same from their #1 netminder.
Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks will once again have the experience on their side, with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry being accustomed to the big stage and playoff pressure. Getzlaf currently leads the team in playoff scoring with three goals and five points through their four games played, helping the Ducks to sweep the Flames.
Rickard Rakell has been a stud all season, and matches the captain’s five points for series #1. Rakell led the Ducks with 33 goals during the regular season, which he managed in just 71 games played.
Former Selke-winner and current candidate, Ryan Kesler, will likely be tasked with matching up and shutting down Connor McDavid. It’s a job that Kesler is used to, being one of the best two-way centers in the NHL.
The Ducks blueline certainly has its’ health concerns, currently missing Fowler from the lineup as well as Clayton Stoner and Simon Despres.
Shea Theodore and Brandon Montour, two excellent rookies, stepped up admirably in the absence and were major factors in the Flames series. Can they replicate their production is round-two against a stronger Oilers’ offense?

In net, John Gibson’s current playoff numbers aren’t far off of those for Cam Talbot. Gibson owns a .926 SV% and a 2.59 GAA entering the second round. He’ll be the steadfast behind the strong defensive group, even if they are forced to play without Fowler.
Sami Vatanen, Hampus Lindholm, Kevin Bieksa, Josh Manson, Korbinian Holzer and the rookies are as deep of a group as any.
Free Edmonton Oilers vs Anaheim Ducks Playoff Series Prediction:
This series should be a close one and ultimately come down to the small details. Which goaltender will outperform? Can McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and their second out-produce the top-6 of the Ducks, who carry similar overall totals and talent.
Will injuries play a big factor?
The veteran Anaheim is the team with more experience, though their offensive players are very similar to what the Oilers just faced from San Jose.
I like the Oilers to ultimately come out of the series, in what may come down to a game-7.
