The 49th edition of the Memorial Tournament will be played this week, and as a signature event on the PGA Tour calendar, the Jack Nicklaus hosted event features a loaded field of golfers including reigning Masters champions and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who already has four tournament victories this season and enters this one as the betting favorite.

Second on the betting board is four-time major champion Rory McIlroy. Behind the two of them is the golfer coming off a convincing victory in the season’s second major – the PGA Championship – and that’s Xander Schauffele, the only other player in the field offering less than 10-to-1 odds to win this week.

This Week on the PGA Tour

This tournament’s placement on the PGA Tour schedule just one week ahead of the U.S. Open certainly didn’t have much of an impact on the quality of the field for this signature event. Nine of the top 10 golfers in the world rankings will be in contention at Muirfield Village Golf Club this week.

Seven shots below par was the number to beat last year, with Viktor Hovland matching that score en route to win the 2023 edition in a playoff. He’s back to defend his title in what should be another year of tough scoring conditions at this challenging venue.

Hovland would be the first golfer since Tiger Woods to repeat as champion at this event. Hovland may be on the upswing at the moment as his third-place finish at the PGA Championship was his best finish of 2024. The PGA Championship winner and world No. 2 Xander Schauffele will be making his first appearance since claiming his first major title at Valhalla.

Scheffler finished with the second-lowest score at the Memorial last season. He’s been on an absolute heater over the past few weeks, with only one finish outside the top 10 in his last seven starts. Rory is in the midst of a busy stretch on his schedule. He has five top-10 finishes in 12 starts at Muirfield Village, and is coming off a tie for fourth at the RBC Canadian Open last week.

Morikawa has returned to the type of ball-striking form that justifies his spot among the top four on the betting board. While he’s been racking up birdie opportunities, his putter hasn’t always been cooperative. That could change, as he has five straight top-16 finishes in stroke play events. He lost to Patrick Cantlay in a playoff at the Memorial in 2021.

Going off historical performance at Muirfiled Village, Cantlay’s name stands out among the crowd. In seven career appearances here, Cantlay hasn’t finished worse than T35, with four top-four finishes and two victories at this venue. He’s gained strokes off the tee and on approach in each of his last six starts on this course.

Coming off a T6 at his national open, Conners is another tremendous ball-striker to like this week. He hasn’t missed a cut this season, and has four top-26 finishes in his last four appearances. Conners made the cut in four of five starts here in his career, including a T13 in 2022.

2024 Memorial Tournament Free Picks & Golf Betting Odds: Will Zalatoris +7000

Current form isn’t a strength for Zalatoris entering this tournament, as he hasn’t finished better than a T44 in his last four start, but it’s been his short game that’s let him down. His ball-striking has been on point, as he ranks 14^th in shots gained: approach, and seventh in par-5 scoring.
