With all of that in mind who should we be keeping an extra eye on this week? Let’s break it down.
2018 The Valero Texas Open Favorites:
Sergio Garcia +1400
Sergio Garcia comes into this tournament as the odds on favorite but as the week goes on he has been creeping closer to the field.
When the lines came out he was at +1200 but has moved to +1400. For Garcia this is a really big tournament for him.
[dfads params=’groups=248&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
He really struggled at the Masters and he needs to try and get that out of his head. If he keeps thinking about what happened at the Masters though he will struggle in this tournament.
We should know by the end of Thursday’s round if his head is on straight but he is still someone I would stay away from.
Charley Hoffman +1800
Charlie Hoffman comes into this tournament with the second-best odds to win, and he is another guy I don’t like with the price he is at.
He has been in the top 36 in each of his last four starts but I don’t think he will get over the edge in this one. If he was sitting at the +5000 price I might be more in on him, but at this price the value just isn’t there.
2018 The Valero Texas Open Contenders:
Adam Scott +2500
Adam Scott is one of the best ball strikers on the course, but when it comes to putting he has really struggled the last few months.
If he can find a way to get his putter going the chances are high that he will finish high on the leaderboard with a chance to win it.
Zach Johnson +4000
Zach Johnson is one of the better values of the weekend. Although he hasn’t had a ton of success this year he has had a ton of success at this course.
He won in back to back years in 2008 and 2009 at this same tournament and he usually finishes quite low here. Although he hasn’t had success this year he finished off the end of last year strong.
[dfads params=’groups=247&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
If he can channel some of that success he had in November and December he could win. At this price he is a guy that I really like.
2018 The Valero Texas Open Sleeper (+5000 or higher):
JB Holmes +5000
Another guy that it’s all going to come down to his putter is JB Holmes. He is a really good ball striker but the putter has let him down this year
If his putter is working he is worth laying a few bucks as a longshot.
2018 The Valero Texas Open Picks:
The guy I do really like is – Zach Johnson to have a nice tournament and end up on top on Sunday Afternoon.
He gets his third win ever year and gets his season back on the right track.
