Winners of five out of six, the Islanders are trying to make moves in the tough Metropolitan Division. The team will look to kick off the second half of the season with a win over the Metro-leading Washington Capitals.
The Caps, winners of four out of five, will look to continue their fantastic season and take out the Islanders in New York.
There’s not much that has gone wrong for this Capitals team this season. Washington is fantastic on both offense and defense, and has one of the best players in the NHL.
The Caps are 1st in goals against, allowing a total of just 106 goals through 49 games. The defense gets things done on a nightly basis and that quality helps generate quality on the offensive end.
Washington is 3rd in the league in goals scored, netting 160 this season. A big part of that has been the aforementioned best player, Alex Ovechkin. Ovi has 23 goals and 22 assists this year and he has two goals and four assists over the last five games.
Right wing T.J. Oshie has played great, too. He has 18 goals and 14 assists on the year.
Over his previous five games, he has four goals and three assists. Oshie is having a great stretch of games recently and he’ll look for that to continue against the Islanders.
New York Islanders
After having a horrendous first half of the season, the Islanders were able to head into the All-Star break on a solid stretch of games.
New York has won five of its last six games and has beaten some solid teams, including Columbus and Montreal.
Who knows if this good run can continue for two more months but the team has certainly had some good performances recently, especially on defense.
Over the last six games, the Islanders recorded two shutouts and allowed just two goals to Columbus and one goal to Montreal. If the Islanders can keep things going well on defense, it’ll make it easier to win games despite not having a particularly potent offense.
On offense, captain John Tavares has been the team’s best player by far and he’s been having a respectable, All-Star worthy year. He has 19 goals and 21 assists on the year, including three goals and five assists over his previous five games.
Left winger Anders Lee has been helpful on the offensive end. He has 17 goals and eight assists. Over his last five games, he has two goals and three assists.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Washington is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games
- New York is 5-0 ATS in the last five games
Free Washington Capitals vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction:
Washington has been a force to be reckoned with all season. Against a poor team like the New York Islanders, the Capitals should be able to generate a lot of offense and score a lot of goals. Washington gets the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER
Washington has the ability to hit the over by itself, considering how brilliant the team’s goal-scoring ability is. New York had a good run of defensive performances but I can’t imagine it’ll be able to keep the Capitals at bay.
