Here’s why I’m backing the bet below in my Blackhawks Hurricanes free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Blackhawks vs. Hurricanes Gameday
The Chicago Blackhawks visit the Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, with ESPN+ carrying the game outside the local television markets.
Jeff Blashill’s Blackhawks enter at 4-12-1, having dropped five consecutive games. Chicago remains winless on the road at 0-7-1.
Carolina is chasing the league’s top spot while Chicago is still chasing its first road victory.
Rod Brind’Amour’s Hurricanes are 13-3-2 and lead the Metropolitan Division. They’ve won five of their last six games and have been particularly difficult to beat at Lenovo Center.
Chicago has shown occasional flashes from its younger players. Turning those moments into a complete performance has been another matter entirely.
Carolina’s balanced lineup has helped it overcome injuries without losing momentum. Brind’Amour continues getting contributions throughout the forward group, giving opponents plenty to worry about.
The Hurricanes defeated Chicago 5-2 at United Center on October 10. Saturday offers Carolina an opportunity to complete the season sweep.
Chicago finishes a three-game road trip before returning home. Carolina heads to Finland afterward for two games against Seattle in the NHL Global Series.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Carolina Hurricanes Odds & Previous Games
Carolina opened as the -468 moneyline favorite, with Chicago returning +361. The Hurricanes are laying 1.5 goals at -169, while the Blackhawks are getting 1.5 at +139.
The total is 6.5, with the over priced at +100 and the under at -122. That’s a substantial favorite, and sportsbooks aren’t offering much incentive to back Carolina straight up.
Chicago lost 4-1 to Tampa Bay after falling 5-3 to Florida and 5-2 to Colorado. The Blackhawks previously lost 5-4 in overtime to Boston and 4-1 to Detroit.
Carolina defeated the Islanders 5-3 on Thursday after losing 4-1 to Nashville. Before that, the Hurricanes beat Winnipeg 7-0, Columbus 3-2 and Boston 2-1.
The Hurricanes have won seven of their last ten games. Chicago has managed only two victories over the same stretch, and one required overtime.
Carolina has enjoyed the better of recent meetings between these clubs. The Hurricanes’ speed and ability to maintain possession have repeatedly tested Chicago’s defensive structure.

Hurricanes Stats
Carolina has scored 69 goals through 18 games, averaging 3.83 per contest. The Hurricanes have generated 599 shots on goal, placing them among the NHL’s most productive offensive teams.
Their aggressive forecheck helps create extended offensive-zone possessions. Carolina is particularly effective at recovering loose pucks and keeping opponents under pressure.
Defensively, the Hurricanes allow approximately 2.33 goals per game. That balance has helped them build one of the league’s strongest records.
Sebastian Aho leads Carolina with 23 points, including 9 goals and 14 assists. Logan Stankoven has contributed 11 goals, giving Brind’Amour another reliable scoring threat.
Andrei Svechnikov has added 16 points and 37 hits. His combination of skill and physical play makes him difficult to handle along the boards.
Pyotr Kochetkov has recorded 10 wins and two shutouts in 11 appearances. Brandon Bussi has contributed three victories, providing Carolina with another option in goal.
Captain Jordan Staal remains sidelined with a calf injury. His absence removes an experienced defensive forward and an important faceoff presence.
Blackhawks Stats
Chicago has scored 37 goals through 17 games, averaging just 2.18 per contest. The Blackhawks rank near the bottom of the NHL in offensive production.
The power play converts at only 9.8%, the league’s worst rate. For a team struggling to score at even strength, that’s a particularly expensive weakness.
Defensively, Chicago allows 3.94 goals per game. The Blackhawks have struggled to limit quality chances, leaving their goaltenders with difficult assignments.
Connor Bedard has 12 points in 11 appearances, including 4 goals and 8 assists. His creativity remains one of Chicago’s most important offensive weapons.
Rookie Roman Kantserov leads the club with 8 goals. He’s also riding a seven-game point streak, an encouraging development in an otherwise difficult season.
Chicago wins approximately 42% of its faceoffs. That makes establishing possession difficult against opponents capable of controlling the puck for long stretches.
Spencer Knight has made 353 saves and recorded all four Chicago victories. His 3.34 GAA reflects the heavy workload he’s faced behind an inconsistent defensive group.
Patrick Kane remains unavailable with an upper-body injury, while Bowen Byram is on injured reserve. Those absences further limit Blashill’s options.
Chicago’s young talent offers some promise, but the defensive numbers aren’t giving anyone much reason to celebrate.
Blackhawks vs. Hurricanes Goalie Matchup
Kochetkov is a possible starter for Carolina after Bussi handled Thursday’s victory over the Islanders. Kochetkov owns a 1.64 GAA and .922 save percentage, although his assignment remains unconfirmed.
Knight could return for Chicago after sitting out the Tampa Bay game. He’s 4-9-0 with an .891 save percentage, while Arvid Soderblom remains another available option.
Carolina’s defensive structure has generally kept opposing shot totals manageable. Chicago’s goaltenders haven’t enjoyed that same protection, particularly when turnovers lead to extended defensive-zone pressure.

Neither club has officially announced its starter. Chicago will need sharper coverage around the crease, regardless of which goaltender gets the assignment.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Carolina Hurricanes bottom line: Carolina’s superior depth and defensive discipline present a difficult assignment for a Chicago team still searching for consistency away from home.

- Chicago has allowed at least 4 goals in each of their last 4 games.

Blackhawks Hurricanes Free Pick: Hurricanes -1.5
Here is my Blackhawks Hurricanes free pick: I’m laying Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (-169). Chicago has allowed at least 4 goals in five straight games, and that’s the kind of defensive collapse that makes a puck-line bet attractive. Carolina doesn’t need a perfect night to win this by two.
The biggest advantage is what happens once the Hurricanes get ahead. Chicago hasn’t shown much ability to mount a sustained comeback, and chasing the game against Carolina usually means spending even more time defending. That’s not exactly a winning formula.
I’m paying for a two-goal Carolina victory, not another 60-minute Chicago survival exercise.
At -169, the price isn’t cheap. But laying nearly -500 on Carolina’s moneyline offers little appeal, and the puck line gives me a better return for backing the stronger club.
Carolina should control enough of this game to create separation, and I like its chances of finishing the job without needing an empty-net gift. I’ll take the bigger payout and lay the 1.5 with Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 (-169).
