Columbus is on a 13 game winning streak, which is enough to start thinking “hey, they’ll have to lose sometime.”
Heading to Winnipeg, the Blue Jackets will take on the Jets, who are coming off a strong win against the Chciago Blackhawks in the United Center. They’ll look to end that Columbus winning streak.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Despite what the naysayers are preaching, Columbus has been a very good hockey team. Whether or not the team’s fantastic two-way play translates to a deep playoff run remains to be seen but, right now, that’s not what we’re here to discuss.
The 3rd ranked team in goals scored, the Blue Jackets get a great level of play from multiple forwards. Cam Atkinson has been wonderful on the right wing, netting 15 goals along with 20 assists.
Brandon Saad has played some good hockey recently, as well. He has four goals and two assists in his last five games and will look to add to his season total (13G, 16A).
Center Sam Gagner has struggled scoring the puck recently, with just one goal in his last seven games, but has had a very good season overall (14G, 13A).
To beat the Jets, the forward play will need to be on point and Atkinson, Saad, and Gagner will have to put pucks near the net.
Winnipeg started the post-holiday break with a solid win against a really good Chicago team. Playing great defense and limiting the top-line’s chances helped the Jets get a win against another Central Division team.
With four wins in the last five games, the Jets are showing improvement on both sides of the ice. On defense, Winnipeg has allowed just 10 total goals in those five games and have looked better than their 23rd ranked goals against stat would indicate.
The offense has been fairly good all year, mostly thanks to the likes of rookie Patrik Laine, Mark Schiefele, and captain Blake Wheeler. Laine is making a great case for the Calder Trophy with 19 goals and 11 assists. Schiefele has hit the next level of stardom at age 23, netting 15 goals and adding in 17 assists.
And captain Blake Wheeler has shown why he’s the leader of this team, playing solid hockey while also taking these new kids under his wing. His 11 goals and 16 assists have helped the Jets a lot.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The UNDER is 3-1-1 in Winnipeg’s last five games
- Columbus is 10-2-3 on the road this season
Free Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Winnipeg Jets NHL Hockey Prediction:
It’s extremely tough to bet against the Blue Jackets team right now. Despite a solid five-game stretch for the Jets, I have a feeling that Columbus will pull out a win thanks to its first-place defense. Columbus gets the W.
