This Sunday will feature a matchup between two of the top teams in the AFC, the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots.
Tennessee was the hottest team in the league after winning six straight game but they fell on their face last weekend and lost to the 1-8 Houston Texans 22-13.
New England looked dead in the water at 2-4, but they are now the new hottest team after winning five straight games and have retaken the lead atop the AFC East.
These teams last played in the 2019 playoffs, Tennessee was the #6 seed and shocked the Tom Brady led Patriots in Foxborough. It was Brady’s last game with the Pats.
Tennessee Titans
Tennessee’s remarkable win streak finally ended last week in a complete letdown performance. After running a gauntlet of defeating five straight playoff teams from last season the Titans were able to enjoy a game against the 1-8 Houston Texans at home. A win would have given the Titans a two game lead for the #1 seed in the AFC.
Tennessee squandered the opportunity and fell behind 19-0 in the 3rd quarter. The weather was as ugly as the Titans’ performance as rain poured down and forced 5 Tennessee turnovers, including 4 interceptions by Ryan Tannehill.
The Titans tried to mount a comeback and got the ball back only down 19-13 with 5 minutes remaining but miscommunication on a route led to another Tannehill interception in Tennessee territory. Houston went on to kick a 37-yard field goal to ice the game.
Tennessee had another injury rittled game as the teams top2 available receivers AJ Brown and Marcus Johnson left the game early and didn’t return. The Titans placed several more players on IR after the game as their league record high of injured players continue to mount. A bye next week is much needed for Tennessee to rehab and rest.
The Titans have also had the hardest schedule of any team in the league to this point but they have reached the peak and now get to head down and enjoy the easiest strength of schedule the remainder of the way.
New England Patriots
The Patriots are one of the most talked about teams right now in the league and that is due to their five game winning streak. New England has beaten the Jets, Chargers, Panthers, Browns, and Falcons to suddenly sit back atop the AFC East over the struggling Bills.
New England’s defense has been suffocating, they’ve allowed just 13 points over the last 3 weeks. Against Atlanta, the Patriots forced 4 turnovers including a pick-6 to widen their lead to 25-0.
The defensive play has lightened the load off rookie Mac Jones shoulders as he doesn’t have to do too much. Last week, Jones was an efficient 22/26 passing for 207 yards with a touchdown and interception. That has been a typical statline for the rookie QB as he has operated enough as a game manager to keep the Pats rolling.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Tennessee is 7-4 ATS this season
- Tennessee OVERS are 6-5 this season
- New England is 7-4 ATS this season
- New England UNDERS are 6-5 this season
4* Free Week 12 NFL Betting Prediction: Titans +6
This line is disrespectful to the fullest degree. I understand Tennessee is coming into this week off an ugly loss and New England is rolling but the talent gap is not this wide.
The Titans are the current #1 seed in the AFC and were just on a much more impressive win streak against superior opponents than the one the Pats are currently on.
New England’s game plan has been play good defense and get enough out of Mac Jones to beat teams. That is similar to Tennessee’s philosophy since Derrick Henry went down.
This will be a hard nosed grind it out game so there is no way the difference ends up being larger than 6 points in the Patriots favor.
Take the Titans to cover and even win as they tend to bounce back strong in these spots.
