The Jaguars are not only 0-4 to begin the season, they now have to weather the storm of the distractions from head coach Urban Meyer and his social media liaisons over the weekend. Meyer was caught on camera grinding with a woman who is not his wife, and although it may not be a big deal to the team the media has sure made it out to be.
It’s kind of a shame the Jaguars have outside interference this week because they had been playing well the last few weeks. Tennessee comes into this week 5 game off an OT loss, letting the Jets get their first win of the season 27-24 last time out. Will the Titans lose to a rookie QB for the 2nd straight week?
Tennessee Titans
The Titans are just a -4.5 favorite on Sunday against a winless Jacksonville team, which should tell you all you need to know about the Titans right now. Tennessee is just too inconsistent, getting blown out at home by Arizona and also winning in Seattle so far in 2021.
Tennessee missed a great opportunity to have a three game winning streak after falling 27-24 in OT against the Jets. NYJ QB Zach Wilson had 297 yards and 2 TD and New York was able to get the win despite running for just 66 yards on 25 carries.
There’s not much more the Titans could have done offensively at MetLife Stadium, throwing for 253 yards, running for 177 and holding a 41-29 time of possession advantage. Tennessee settled for three field goals in the first half though, costing them a chance to rip things open and allowing New York to hang in 9-7 going into halftime.
The Jets have an underrated defense behind new coach Robert Saleh though, so the Titans should have a good bounce back vs. Jacksonville. The Jaguars are giving up 418.5 yards/game, which is the 3rd most in the NFL.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville is a young team which makes it interesting to see how they’ll bounce back from the media distractions of the past week. The Jaguars have had extra prep time after losing in Cincinnati last Thursday night, falling 24-21 even after going into the half up 14-0.
The Jaguars have finally committed to the running game the last two weeks, with James Robinson going for 88 yards and a TD vs. Arizona and 78 yards and 2 scores vs. the Bengals. It’s no coincidence Jacksonville held the lead in both games, also up 19-10 vs. the Cardinals late in the 3rd quarter before losing 31-19.
#1 pick Trevor Lawrence had his first game without an interception last week completing 17 of 24 passes while also running for a score. He’ll need to avoid turnovers again to keep Derrick Henry off the field, as the Titans RB has gone for 150+ on the ground in two of his last three.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Titans are 2-5 ATS last 7 overall
- Titans are 1-5 ATS last 6 as a road favorite
- OVER is 4-0 in Titans last 4 road games
- Jaguars 4-9 ATS last 13 vs. AFC
- Jaguars are 0-4 ATS last 4 home games
- UNDER is 4-1 in Jaguars last 5 overall
4* Free Week 5 NFL Betting Prediction: Jaguars +4.5
There may be something to the Jaguars being just 4.5 underdogs on Sunday when this looks like it should be a 7-10 point game. Lawrence has to be optimistic that fellow rookie Wilson picked up his first win last week, and if the Jaguars can commit to the run it will make the #1 pick’s life easier.
Henry is a beast and stopping him is going to be no easy task for the Jaguars. Henry was running all over the place last week against the Jets though and Tennessee still only had a 9-7 lead at the half.
