These teams are very familiar with each other and faced off three times last season. The Saints won the season opener 34-23 and dominated later in the season 38-8 but were bounced in the divisional round 30-20 by the eventual super bowl champions.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay continued their winning streak with a dominating 38-3 beatdown of the Chicago Bears at home. Despite the lopsided score the game was even less competitive then it seems as the Buccaneers were up 35-3 at halftime and coasted in the second half.
Tom Brady was efficient once again, finishing 20/36 passing for 211 yards and 4 touchdowns.
In the process, Tom Brady expanded upon his NFL pass touchdown record and became the first quarterback to surpass the 600 career touchdown milestone.
Mike Evans was unware of the significance when he caught the record breaking pass and handed the ball to a fan in the crowd. Luckily for Brady the team was able to negotiate an agreement to get the ball back from the fan for a handsome return.
Without Antonio Brown in the lineup (ankle) wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans elevated their game in his absence. Godwin finished with a team high 8 receptions and 111 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Evans finished with 6 catches for 76 yards and scored a trifecta of touchdowns.
The Tampa Bay defense was lights out all day on Sunday, filling up the stat sheet with 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 2 fumbles recovered. They also held the Bears offense to 2/11 on third downs and 0/1 on fourth down.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints won their second straight game with an ugly 13-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks on the road.
Brian Johnson hit a 33-yard field goal with just under 2 minutes to play and the New Orleans defense stifled Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense with ease to hold on for the victory.
New Orleans looked pedestrian offensively once again as they had to be carried throughout by star running back Alvin Kamara.
Kamara finished with 179 of the teams 304 all-purpose yards and scored the teams only touchdown, a 13-yard reception from Jameis Winston. Kamara also touched the ball on 30 of the team’s 68 total plays in the game.
Alvin Kamara has been the sparkplug for this Saints offense all season. Kamara has 419 yards rushing on 114 carries to go along with a team high 25 receptions for 241 yards, he has 5 total touchdowns.
Marquez Callaway has had a breakout season and has a slim team lead in receiving yards with 254.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Tampa Bay is 3-4 ATS
- Tampa Bay OVERS are 4-3
- New Orleans is 3-3 ATS
- New Orleans UNDERS are 4-2
4* Free Week 8 NFL Betting Prediction: Tampa Bay -4.5
These teams met three times last season with New Orleans grabbing both games in the regular season but Tampa Bay grabbing the last laugh and the winning the divisional round 30-20.
This go around likely wont be as competitive as Tampa Bay has been a team on a tear since last seasons playoffs while New Orleans has dealt with departures and injuries and no longer are the team to beat in the division.
The Bucs are rolling right now and Tom Brady is aware how big divisional games can be when the end of the season rolls around. A victory on Sunday will give the Bucs a sizable gap in the NFC South and will make them overwhemingly favorites to repeat.
I’m taking Brady and the Bucs to have their way with the Saints in New Orleans and feast off Winston turnovers.
Take Tampa Bay on the road.
