Two teams in search of their first preseason victory battle on Friday as the Pittsburgh Steelers head south to Louisiana to take on the Saints.
Both the Steelers and Saints have failed to cover for their backers in the first two games.
Pittsburgh Steelers
While the Steelers have started the preseason off 0-2, there is nothing to significant to be alarmed about.
Pittsburgh has yet to play any of their top guys this preseason.
The Steelers were shut out last week in a 17-0 loss to the Eagles, a game that saw them gather just 207 yards of total offense.
QB Landry Jones, who continues to battle for the backup job, didn’t help is case at all. Jones threw for 111 yards, but added 4 interceptions to his stats.
The aspect to watch over the next couple weeks will be at the RB position. With Bell suspended for 3 games, the Steelers continue to try and find a solidified rotation system that will be headline by DeAngelo Williams.
They’ll still need a back or two to come in on certain downs and situations, which is completely up for grabs.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are going to be an interesting team to watch this season.
While they have one of the best QBs in the game, they really have nothing else to surround him with. That’s where the preseason comes in. The Saints will look for players to step up and solidify themselves ahead of the others here over the next couple weeks.
The wide receiver battle is the most intriguing of the battles. With one of the most elite QBs in the game, giving him talent to throw to is a must.
There is real no true #1 on this team. Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead are the likely two candidates to be the top targets, but behind him isn’t much. Whoever can step up over the next couple weeks will have a real shot at playing a big part in this offense.
RB wise, Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, and CJ Spiller all expect to see time on this offense, depending on the situation and yardage to go.
