Thursday Night Football sees the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium. The kickoff is set for 8:20 ET.
The Steelers are coming off of a win and the Vikings are coming off a loss. This is a critical game for both teams here.
The Vikings opened up as a 3.5 point favorite and that number is now down to 3. The total has gone from 45.5. to 44.5.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have certainly not been the team we have become used to seeing over the last multiple years, but they are still in there. I do not think they will go all that far this year, but at least they have their fans interested in them.
Pittsburgh beat the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday by a score of 20-19. As a Baltimore-Pittsburgh game typically is, it was by no means a pretty game, but they got the win, which is the most important thing. They can also thank John Harbaugh for going for it when they could have easily tied the game.
A lot of people were ready to count this team out a while ago. Say what you want, but they have not totally faded away this year.
On Sunday, Big Ben was 21/31 for 236 yards with 2 touchdown passes. I really was not all that confident that he would march his team down the field and throw the winning touchdown, but he sure did.
The defense has been solid throughout the year and I really liked the way the unit looked on Sunday. Keeping Lamar Jackson and co. in check is no easy thing to do and they executed that perfectly. They will face another big challenge when they try and slow down this very good offense in the Vikings.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings have struggled with consistency this year. Their record of 5-7 pretty much sums that one up.
Minnesota lost to the Detroit Lions on Sunday by a score of 29-27. There are bad losses and then there is that game. Are you kidding me?
One thing about this team is that they seem to be in a majority of the games they play. They just have a hard time holding leads. You never feel like they have a game in lock.
Kirk Cousins was 30/40 for 340 yards with 2 touchdown passes in the loss on Sunday. When your quarterback plays like that you should be able to win ball games.
The defense continues to be an issue for this squad. You can say what you want about Mike Zimmer being a great defensive mind, but you have to show results on the field and so far this unit has not done that.
NFL Betting Trends:
- The Steelers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games against the Vikings.
- The Steelers are 2-6 SU in their last 8 games on the road.
- The Steelers are 5-2 SU in their last 7 games played in week 14.
- The Vikings are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games.
- The Vikings are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games played in December.
- The total has gone under in 4 of Minnesota’s last 5 games against Pittsburgh.
4* Free Week 14 NFL Betting Prediction: Steelers +3
Oftentimes, the game on Thursday night is really not that compelling. This is not the case in this one. I feel this has the chance to be a good game.
As mentioned earlier, these games are critical for both of these squads. A win for either of them would seriously help their current situation, but a loss would be a total killer at this point.
I know it may seem hard to have confidence in the Steelers right now, but they showed me something in that win over the Ravens. You cannot totally count this team out.
Sure, a few weeks ago the Bengals routed the Steelers, but for the most part, they are in the games they play. I look for this trend to continue on Thursday when they face off with this Vikings team.
I know that 3 is not a huge number to lay, but I just do not trust the Vikings to cover. I can see this being a close game where the Steelers keep it within that key number.
Give me Pittsburgh getting a field goal on the road here.
