Philadelphia’s Super Bowl defense season started slowly and has just never gotten on track, right from the start. It isn’t a dud yet but it will be fast if the Eagles can’t get things together.
Unfortunately, this is hardly the matchup for that to happen. The Saints look as good as any team in football and host the defending champs in Week 11.
Carson Wentz completed thirty-two passes in forty-four attempts for 360 yards and two touchdowns, both to Zach Ertz, who caught fourteen passes on the day.
The newest Eagle, Golden Tate, caught just two passes for nineteen yards in the defeat. He caught Wentz’s first attempt of the game but went quietly after that.
Philly’s undoing came in the running game, where it just couldn’t stop Ezekiel Elliott, who ran for 151 yards and a touchdown, plus another thirty-six with a touch out of the backfield as a receiver. He scored both of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter to propel Dallas ahead.
The Eagles’ season isn’t lost. They are tied with Dallas and two games back of first-place Washington. After this game, Philly will play each of its divisional opponents in consecutive games, the first two against New York and Washington at home. Those will be must-wins.
New Orleans Saints
As for this game, it’s hard to imagine any team coming in and providing much resistance against the Saints at the Superdome.
New Orleans played in Cincinnati on Sunday against a playoff-caliber Bengals team and ran away with a 51–14 win. Drew Brees threw as many touchdowns as incompletions (3) and finished with 265 yards.
Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara split the rushing duties. Ingram gained more yards (104 to 56) but Kamara scored both touchdowns.
Ingram did score through the air, however, as did Michael Thomas (you had to have known that already). Thomas caught eight balls for seventy yards and two scores.
Brees’ three touchdowns moved him into the second spot, all-time, for touchdown passes. He finished the first half with three TDs, two incompletions and over 200 yards, leading his team to a touchdown on all five of its drives. He took it easy in the second.
