The NFL returns to London after a 1-year hiatus due to COVID travel restrictions. While UKers may not be seeing a matchup of potential playoff contenders, at the very least the tilt between the 1-3 Jets and 1-3 Falcons should at least be a close contest.
We knew it was going to be a work in progress for the Jets with Robert Saleh transitioning to head coach and #2 pick Zach Wilson starting at QB. New York has something to build on after an OT win over Tennessee last week whereas Atlanta comes in off a 34-30 loss to Washington.
New York Jets
It was either a once-off last week or things are starting to click for Wilson, because the Jets had their best offensive game by far last week in the win over the Titans. New York scored a combined 20 points in their first three games of the year before the 27-24 win over Tennessee.
The best optics about last week’s Jets win was that Wilson wasn’t just a game manager, but the reason New York won with 297 yards and 2 TDs. The rookie had another INT last week, his 8th in the year which leads the league. That being said Wilson’s 97.3 rating was his best of the season.
Once again it was just one game but Wilson showed great chemistry with his wide receivers and the tendency to air things out, with Corey Davis and Keelan Cole, Sr. both hauling in 50+ yard passes. New York’s running game is still a work in progress though.
Saleh’s defense has performed well, mostly victims of the offense’s inability to move the ball through the first three games of the season. In week’s 2 and 3 the Patriots and Broncos combined for 8 FGs vs. New York meaning the Jets did the best they could with the situation.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are playing better ball the last two weeks after losing their first two games of the season by a combined 49 points. Atlanta beat the Giants 17-14 on the road in week 3, and were 0:33 seconds away from a two game win streak before Washington hit on a late 30-yard TD pass for a 34-30 win (2 pt failed).
The odds are WFT was at least going to hit a field goal to defeat Atlanta, so it is an indictment that the Falcons couldn’t hold on to a 30-22 lead in the 4th quarter. This is now three games out of four that the ATL defense has given up at least 32 ppg, making them last in the league in points allowed.
Basically the question heading into Sunday’s game is if Atlanta’s offense can overcome their defensive efficiencies? Matt Ryan threw 4 TDs last week, the Falcons didn’t commit a turnover, and the team still lost to a mediocre WFT team. Cordarelle Patterson had 3 TDs and it still wasn’t enough.

4* Free Week 5 NFL Betting Prediction: Under 46
This seems like it should be a PK game for the simple fact that both teams are 1-3 and with all the crazy outside questions that come with playing in the London game.
There is no outcome that would be a shock in this game. The Jets have momentum on offense and have a defensive oriented head coach while Atlanta has a veteran QB that can lead this team through the rigmarole of having to play in the UK.
