Giants vs. Rams Gameday
Week 2 closes Monday night at SoFi Stadium, where the New York Giants visit the Los Angeles Rams on ABC and ESPN. John Harbaugh’s Giants arrive 1-0 after beating Dallas 28-20, while Sean McVay and the Rams are trying to scrub a 27-7 season-opening loss to San Francisco from their memory.
New York’s opener was more than a lucky bounce or two. The Giants piled up 394 yards, controlled possession for 36:40 and repeatedly kept drives alive, with Jaxson Dart directing an offense that converted nine of 11 third downs.
One Sunday changed the Giants conversation; Monday tells us how much of it was real.
Los Angeles had the opposite Week 1 experience, getting outgained 379-290 by the 49ers in Australia. The Rams trailed only 10-7 at halftime before San Francisco scored the final 17 points, turning a competitive opener into a long flight home.
Matthew Stafford and Jaxson Dart give this matchup a pretty entertaining generational split at quarterback. The Giants are trying to prove their opener wasn’t September fool’s gold, while the Rams would prefer not to spend the next week answering questions about an 0-2 start.

New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Rams Odds & Last 5
The opening sportsbook odds made Los Angeles a substantial favorite, with the Rams around -354 on the moneyline and New York returning +282. The Giants opened as 7-point underdogs, while the total was sitting at 48.
That number has nudged toward Los Angeles. Current markets are showing the Rams around -7.5 with New York +7.5, while the total has slipped to approximately 47.5 and Los Angeles is around -330 on the moneyline.
The Giants opened with that 28-20 win over Dallas, while the Rams were beaten 27-7 by San Francisco.
That’s about as different as two Week 1 reviews can look without somebody getting fired.
The previous meeting came late in the 2023 season, when Los Angeles escaped with a 26-25 victory. McVay is 4-0 against the Giants as Rams head coach, although these rosters look considerably different from most of those meetings.
Rams Stats
Los Angeles enters Week 2 at 0-1 after producing only seven points and 290 total yards against San Francisco. The Rams had 168 net passing yards and 122 on the ground, with Stafford throwing for 155 yards before Stetson Bennett finished the game.
The running game at least gave McVay something useful to bring home from Australia. Kyren Williams and Blake Corum combined for 95 yards on 21 carries, but the Rams converted only two of nine third downs and couldn’t sustain enough offense once San Francisco took control.
Two-for-nine on third down is a pretty efficient recipe for making any offense look miserable.
Defensively, Los Angeles surrendered 379 yards, including 174 on the ground. Quentin Lake intercepted Brock Purdy, but the Rams couldn’t consistently get off the field and San Francisco owned possession for nearly 34 minutes.
The personnel picture is mixed heading into Monday. Myles Garrett is on injured reserve following knee surgery, and safety Kamren Kinchens has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Puka Nacua is questionable with a hip issue after missing consecutive practices, while Jordan Whittington is doubtful.
There is one rather large piece of good news. Aaron Donald has said the plan is to make his 2026 debut Monday after coming out of retirement, which should make life considerably less comfortable for the Giants’ offensive line.
Giants Stats
New York couldn’t have asked for much more from Harbaugh’s debut. The Giants scored 28 points, generated 394 total yards and finished with 29 first downs while controlling the football for more than 36 minutes against Dallas.
The offense was balanced, producing 229 net passing yards and 165 rushing yards. Cam Skattebo led the ground game with 81 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Likely caught all eight of his targets for 78 yards and two scores.
New York’s defense held Dallas to 244 total yards and 69 rushing yards, with Jevon Holland supplying an interception.
The Giants didn’t record a sack, but they kept the Cowboys from generating explosive plays and gave the offense plenty of opportunities to control the night.
The concern is at cornerback. Paulson Adebo has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, while Deonte Banks is questionable with a calf problem after missing practice Friday and Saturday. Linebacker Micah McFadden is also questionable with a neck injury.
That’s not ideal timing when Stafford, Davante Adams and potentially Nacua are waiting on the other side.

Giants vs. Rams QB Matchup
Matthew Stafford remains the guy running McVay’s offense, but Week 1 didn’t give him much to frame. Stafford completed 15 of 25 passes for 155 yards with no touchdowns and one interception before Los Angeles eventually turned to Bennett in the 27-7 loss.
The Rams managed only seven points and went 2-for-9 on third down. Stafford has seen enough football to survive one ugly opener, but Los Angeles needs considerably more rhythm from its passing game Monday.
Stafford has the résumé; Dart arrives with every bit of the Week 1 momentum.
Jaxson Dart was outstanding against Dallas, completing 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 54 rushing yards. He became the first quarterback in NFL history to open a season with at least three touchdown passes, 50 rushing yards and a passer rating of 130.
His connection with Likely was particularly effective, with the tight end catching eight passes and scoring twice. Dart also repeatedly delivered when New York needed to extend drives, helping the Giants convert nine of 11 third downs.
Now comes the fun part: doing it on the road with Donald potentially staring across the line.
One terrific opener can create expectations in a hurry, and the NFL has never been especially polite about the follow-up exam.
New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Rams bottom line: New York looked ready for prime time in Week 1, while the Rams looked ready for customs, and Monday tells us whether either first impression deserves another week.

Los Angeles looked awful in Australia, and there’s no point putting lipstick on a 27-7 loss. The Rams managed 290 yards, went 2-for-9 on third down and watched San Francisco control the game after halftime. Now they come home with Sean McVay having had extra time to clean up the mess.
New York earned its 28-20 win over Dallas. Jaxson Dart was terrific, the Giants converted nine of 11 third downs, and they controlled the ball for 36-plus minutes. I’m still not paying full retail for one September result.
The Rams should get Aaron Donald back, even with Myles Garrett sidelined.
That matters against a young quarterback making his first road start of the season. The Giants were nearly flawless in money situations against Dallas, and asking them to duplicate that efficiency on the road is a different assignment. One stalled drive or short field can change the math quickly.
Puka Nacua’s questionable tag needs watching, but LA has Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams and McVay scheming against a Giants secondary dealing with injuries. I expect a sharper Rams offense.
Seven isn’t cheap. After that Australia faceplant, though, I’m willing to pay it.
