There was some thought that these two squads would enter this tilt with the same record and that is exactly what we have here with New York falling short to the Lions on Sunday and Dallas throttling the Vikings.
As far as divisional implications go, the game is clearly important for both parties involved, but it is the Giants who need to get this victory, as they cannot afford to drop to this opponent for the second time this season and risk dropping even more in a tight division.
New York will look to use their underdog status as a rallying cry for this game, but the reality is they are going to have to prepare better and execute better than they did in their last game or they are not going to see better results.
Dallas opened as a 6.5-point favorite and it is now up to 9.5 with a total of 45.5.
New York Giants
Before their last loss, the Giants had really played some good football and they really had not done much to deserve all that much criticism.
That changed, though, when they got totally outclassed by a Lions team that really is not very good. It just shows what happens when a team is not ready to play, no matter who their opponent happens to be.
Look, this team is still 7-3 and I would not say it is totally time to panic, but it is fair to question them a little bit. They have not exactly dealt with a ton of adversity to this point in the season, so it will be interesting to see how they respond against one of the best in the NFC.
One of the biggest takeaways I have after the Detroit debacle is just how one-dimensional the G-Men become when Saquon Barkley is a non-factor and how they are still a very limited offense that is not overly talented.
As we have seen time and time again, it is not ideal for this group when the game is solely in the hands of Daniel Jones and he is not just asked to be a caretaker. At times, that has gotten masked this year, but it got totally exposed on Sunday.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys now find themselves in second place in the NFC East and they certainly come into this battle with the Giants as a very confident team after beating the Vikings in every way imaginable in week 11.
It was good to see them respond like that after they dropped a very winnable game to the Packers in the previous week against the NFC North leaders.
Dallas has already had a bunch of impressive wins to this point, but their last one is right at the top for me. They played a complete game and totally wiped the floor with a team that has not done a ton of losing this season.
Dak Prescott was accurate, the running game was effective, and the defense was once again lights out, as they harassed Kirk Cousins all game long.
When Dallas is playing that brand of football, it is hard to see a ton of teams being able to stop them. That is the type of victory that should really put the league on notice.
They will be hosting an angry Giants team on Thanksgiving and their approach really should not be much different. If they can limit Barkley on the ground and make Jones beat them, they will be in really good shape because they have enough firepower to do enough against the defense for New York.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Giants are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. NFC.
- Giants are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 vs. NFC East.
- Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.
- Cowboys are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 vs. NFC.
4* Free Week 12 NFL Betting Prediction: Cowboys -9.5
The Cowboys have been playing some good football as of late and it could not be happening at a better time. In a spot like this, I do not see that slowing down.
Dallas had their way for the most part with New York earlier in the season when it was Cooper Rush at QB and I look for more of the same with Prescott here.
There is no doubt this is a high number for a divisional game, but I feel it is justified given the level of these two squads.
I could see it being close for a little bit, but I expect the firepower of the Cowboys to be too much for the visitors to handle.
