The Saints are proving themselves to be one of the more excruciating teams to bet on so far in this ’21 NFL season. New Orleans has the ability to play games like their 38-3 win over Green Bay in the opener, but then can’t hold a 21-10 4th quarter lead vs. the Giants last Sunday.
Washington is back home after a two game road swing, losing in Buffalo and escaping with a 34-30 win over Atlanta last week. Defense was supposed to be WFT’s strong point this season, but so far it’s been their offense mostly responsible for the .500 record.
New Orleans Saints
There’s no way around it, the Saints are a frustrating team in the post-Drew Brees era. New Orleans holds Aaron Rodgers to a 15/28, 133 yard, 2 INT day in week 1 but then lets Daniel Jones go 28/40 for 402 in New York’s 27-21 win last time out.
The Saints had a top 5 defense in total yards, passing yards, rushing, and points allowed last season, but are having some major problems in their secondary this season. The Packers game aside, Sam Darnold threw for 305 and Mac Jones 270 yards vs. New Orleans this season.
What makes it really hard to wager on New Orleans is you never know what you’re going to get from their offense. Jameis Winston hadn’t thrown for more than 150 yards through three weeks, but then completed 73.3% of his passes last week with 226 yards and the Saints can’t get the win.
Taysom Hill has been more involved in the Saints offense the last couple weeks, running for two scores against the Giants and one the week before against New England. That 28-13 win in Foxborough in week 3 against a Patriots team that looked solid on Sunday night against the defending champ Bucs is just another reason why these Saints are an enigma.
Washington Football Team
New Orleans’ secondary is in disarray right now, with Jones throwing for 400+ yards last week even without two of his top three receivers Darius Slayton and Sterling Shephard. The Giants had two scoring drives of 1-play last week, 52 yards to John Ross and 54 to Saquon Barkley.
All of this points to another big day for Washington QB Taylor Heinicke, who threw 3 TD and 0 INT last week against Atlanta in just his 4th NFL start. Heinicke has multiple TD passes in all three of his starts since taking over for the injured Ryan Fitzpatrick. Terry McLaurin had 123 yards receiving and 2 TD last week vs. the Falcons.
Can the WFT defense bounce back here as they have fallen hard? Washington ranked 2nd in total yards, 2nd in passing yards, and 4th in points given up last season but this season their defense is 29th, 29th, and 30th in those categories respectively.

Heinicke will likely have a big day against this New Orleans secondary, but not astounding numbers. Ultimately you have to bank on Washington finally getting their defense right against a one dimensional Saints offense that ranks 31st in passing offense.
