This game features Drew Brees and the Saints traveling to Levi’s Stadium to face off against the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC matchup.
Kick off is set for 4:05 PM ET with QB Drew Brees getting the start for the Saints against Colin Kapernick of the 49ers.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees had a respectable game against the Legion of Boom last week. In the win he went 27-35 for 265 yards and a touchdown pass. He did enough to get the Saints the victory.
Facing the 49ers he should have a great game, as they have given up 5 touchdowns passes in the last two contests against Jameis Winston and Tyrod Taylor.
Look for him to have a 3 touchdown, 300 yard passing performance this week.
Brandon Cooks has scored a touchdown in 3 straight games.
Although his catches and receiving yards have been up and down all season long, he is still the go to receiver in a talented Saints offense.
He won’t have Richard Sherman covering him this week., so I expect him to reach the 100 yard mark and get a couple of scores.
Willie Snead has not scored in 4 straight games, but he is a very capable number 2 receiver for Drew Brees. Facing a far less talented 49ers secondary I believe he will find the end zone, and have over 75 yards receiving.
Tim Hightower returned to football relevance against Seattle last week.
The tailback was very good against the Seahawks defense, racking up 102 rushing yards on 26 carries. If Mark Ingram can’t go in this one look for Hightower to be the main guy in the backfield for the second straight week.
San Francisco 49ers
Since being named the starter for the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick has played average at best. He finished the game against Tampa Bay 16-34 for 143 yards, with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
He also ran the ball 9 times for 84 yards. In the 2 starts this season he is averaging 75 rushing yards.
This week he goes up against a bad Saints defense that gave up 25 points to an injured Russell Wilson, so look for Kaepernick to make a number of plays in this game.
DuJuan Harris filled in for Carlos Hyde last week and did not play well, finishing with just 39 yards on 11 carries.
The Saints did a good job shutting down Christine Michael last week, but I don’t expect two good performances in a row from the front seven.
The 49ers receiving corps as a whole played terrible against the Buccaneers.
You can’t seem to figure out who to count on each week, but my bet is going to be Jeremy Kerley has been invisible in the last 2 games. Look for a touchdown from him during garbage time.
The 49ers defense has not been able to stop opposing QBs from scoring at will the last couple of weeks. Facing a Hall of Fame quarterback on a hot streak spells disaster for this secondary.
I expect Brees to have a good game against the 49ers and force Kapernick to throw the ball to try and catch up.
