Both teams lost their first week games and both can say their rookie quarterbacks looked OK in doing so.
Now, these division rivals meet as they both look to avoid an 0-2 start which is usually the beginning of a lost season.
New England Patriots
The Patriots should have won last week at home against Miami. They outgained the Dolphins significantly in the 17-16 loss.
It must have driven the coach crazy that they had 8 penalties for 84 yards in the loss. That and an inability to score touchdowns is what did them in. They can definitely clean up the penalties but the scoring remains to be seen.
Mac Jones was as expected in his debut. He did not make any costly mistakes but at the same time, he did not make any big plays either. That is likely to be the way the Pats play on offense all season. They are not really built to get large chunks on offense.
The defense played well against a limited offense from the Dolphins. They can and should play well against a rookie quarterback making his first home start. You can get Belichick will have his guys ready for Zach Wilson.
New York Jets
New York was ar Carolina for their opening game of the year and came up short in a close contest too. Unlike the Pats they were never really a threat to win the game with their play. Carolina didn’t do much which kept the game in reach.
Rookie QB Zach Wilson looked OK. He did throw an interception but he was also able to hit for some big plays. Corey Davis hauled in a couple of TD passes and stretched the field, which is what they got him for.
The Jets’ defense was solid against Carolina. That is a good omen as coach Robert Saleh is a defense guy. He will have to find ways to get more pressure on the quarterback though. Especially against a rookie signal-caller.
Better to lose on the road than at home in the opener for sure. Also, the Jets’ expectations are nowhere near New England’s so all the pressure is on the visitors for this one.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: New England Patriots +5.5
Both of these teams are on my list of teams I am not keen on backing right now. I will be waiting to see if this number comes down but I like the NE side better. Jones has more to work with and the New England defense is better too. Unfortunately, neither team is likely to run away from the other so the backdoor cover will be open all game.
