An NFC North showdown takes place on primetime in Week 15. The Minnesota Vikings will travel south to take on the Chicago Bears from Soldier Field on Monday Night Football.
This is the first meeting between these teams this season but they will face off again in three weeks in Minnesota for the season finale.
Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota will play in their second consecutive primetime game after last playing at home on Thursday night against Pittsburgh. The Vikings came out firing in the first half and led 19-0 at halftime before growing their lead to 29-0 late in the third quarter. It was almost another late game collapse for Minnesota but Harrison Smith knocked down an endzone pass to win 36-28 in dramatic fashion.
Dalvin Cook had his best game on the ground this season and rushed 27 times for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns after missing just on game with his shoulder injury. Kirk Cousins was serviceable, finishing 14/31 passing for 216 yards with a pair of touchdowns and interceptions. Justin Jefferson had another big game with a team high 7 receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Minnesota is one of five teams currently sitting at 6-7 and vying for the final wild card spots. They are the first team out at the moment below Washington due to tiebreakers. Their remaining schedule starts and ends with games against the Bears which are winnable for the Vikings. However, in the middle they have a home game against the Rams and are away at Green Bay which are much more challenging.
Chicago Bears
Chicago started the season 3-2 but they have quickly lost 7 of their last 8 games to drop towards the bottom of the league at 4-9. Half their wins are against the league worst 1-10-1 Lions so they are certainly not a formidable team this season.
Last week, the Bears played on Sunday Night Football against the Packers and lost once again to them by a score of 30-45. Chicago led at halftime 27-21 after an exciting second quarter where the teams combined for 45 points. The second half was a return to normalcy for the abysmal Bears offense as they couldn’t move the ball once again and only scored with a 43 yard FG with just over a minute left.
Justin Fields was the primary playmaker once again and went 18/33 passing for 224 yards with 2 touchdown passes while also carrying the ball 9 times for a team high 74 yards. His turnover issues continued with a fumble and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
Chicago was scoring off big plays which featured a Damiere Byrd 54 yard TD reception and a pair of Jakeem Grant TD’s which included a 46 yard reception and a highlight reel worthy 97-yard punt return.
The Bears have a favorable end of the year schedule against the Vikings, Seahawks, Giants, and Vikings again. Unfortunately, they are no where near a playoff spot and aren’t holding a first round pick since they moved up a year ago for Fields.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Minnesota is 7-6 ATS this season
- Minnesota OVERS are 8-5 this season
- Chicago is 4-9 ATS this season
- Chicago is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games
- Chicago UNDERS are 8-5 this season
4* Free Week 15 NFL Betting Prediction: Minnesota -4
Minnesota is the far superior team in this matchup and the one who much more desperately needs a win here to keep their playoff hopes alive. Chicago is in a bad spot as wins or losses mean nothing as they are out of reach of a playoff spot and don’t have their top draft selection.
The Vikings have been known to play teams tight and often unravel in the second half but I don’t see this Bears’ offense hanging in. Matt Nagy is clearly in the last days of his tenure as Head Coach and the team has packed it in, losing 7 of their last 8 games. Their lone win was a wire to wire finish against the winless Lions on thanksgiving.
Take Minnesota to win and cover this small spread.
