A Seahawks team who have proven to be excellent at home in recent years, will take on a Dolphins team that went just 6-10 last year, good for last place in their respective division.
Kickoff is set for 4:05PM ET with incumbent QB Russell Wilson getting the start for the Hawks, with Ryan Tannehill behind center for the Dolphins.
Ryan Tannehill has not proven himself to be an elite QB yet, as evidenced by his 24:12 TD-to-Int ratio from a year ago.
He is an excellent athlete who used to run competitive track, and was converted in College from a defensive back to QB as he is equipped with a shotgun for an arm.
In a game last October against the Houston Texans, Tannehill became the 64th quarterback in NFL history to post a perfect 158.3 passer rating.
Tannehill has some good weapons to defer to on offense, with WR Jarvis Landry being the key contributor after a 1,147 yard season.
However, gone is lead back Lamar Miller and in is the injury prone Adrian Foster and sophomore, Jay Ajayi, to lead the charge in the run game.
The Dolphin defense boasts a strong core with a number Pro-Bowlers.
The likes of Cameron Wake, Mario Williams, Ndamukong Suh, Kiko Alonso, Michael Taylor, Byron Maxwell and newcomer Laremy Tunsil will lead the way for the Fins.
Russell Wilson is one of the top QBs in the entire NFL, already steaking claim to a SuperBowl ring since taking over as the Hawks’ starter in 2012.
He was originally a 3rd round selection out of Wisconsin.
Wilson threw for 4,024 yards last year, while adding another 553 on the ground, seeing the dual-threat QB combined for 35 TDs and earning a QB rating of 110.1.
There are certainly question-marks with the Seattle offense, namely if Jimmy Graham can return to form, if Thomas Rawls/ Christine Michael can adeptly replace Marshawn Lynch and if Doug Baldwin can repeat his career season of 2015.
The Seattle defense is their calling card, led by one of the best players in the league in Richard Sherman. Add in FS Earl Thomas and SS Kam Chancellor and the backfield is downright scary.
At the line, Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett led the way.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Miami went 6-10 in 2015
- Ryan Tannehill has a career QB rating of 85.2
- In 2015, Ryan Tannehill threw for 10 of his 24 TDs on the road
- Seattle ‘s defense tallied 8 INT and 11 forced fumbles at home last season
- Seattle went 10-6 last year, including 6-4 at Centurylink Field
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Under 45.5
While I trust Seattle’s offense, there is still question marks.
Tyler Lockett has not had a good preseason and Jimmy Graham is currently dealing with an ailment.
I’ll tease the under and risk leaving a little money on the table, as week-1 always has some surprises.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Seattle 24 – Miami 17
I don’t believe in the Miami offense despite Adrian Foster entering the year healthy and both teams have strong defenses. I like Seattle for the win a lot but the odds aren’t there.
