Raiders vs. Chargers Gameday
Las Vegas travels to SoFi Stadium Sunday for its first road game under Klint Kubiak. The Raiders opened the season with a 27-13 win over Miami, while the Chargers are trying to recover from an ugly 26-14 home loss to Arizona. This AFC West matchup kicks off at 4:05 PM ET on CBS.
The Raiders looked considerably better than the three-win team they were a year ago. Ashton Jeanty produced 147 scrimmage yards, while the defense recorded five sacks and held Miami to 2-of-10 on third down.
Las Vegas looked organized in Week 1, which already qualifies as a fairly significant upgrade.
Los Angeles had almost the opposite afternoon. The Chargers moved the football but committed two turnovers, had a punt blocked and piled up seven penalties in a performance Jim Harbaugh described as sloppy.
Now they get a division rival instead of a week to sulk.
The Chargers swept Las Vegas last season, including a 31-14 win at SoFi Stadium. Week 2, Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers, we’re all hoping a great game is in store.

Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers Odds & Last 5
The Chargers remain 6.5-point home favorites, with Los Angeles around -300 on the moneyline and Las Vegas returning approximately +240. The total sits at 43.5.
Those numbers require bettors to decide how much one Sunday should matter.
Las Vegas covered comfortably against Miami as Jeanty helped the Raiders control the game and the defense kept the Dolphins out of the end zone for three quarters. The Chargers did the opposite as heavy favorites, losing outright to an Arizona team that entered SoFi as a double-digit underdog.
Los Angeles does have recent history on its side.
The Chargers won both meetings last season, taking the game at SoFi Stadium 31-14 and winning 20-9 in Las Vegas. That’s useful context, although Kubiak and Cousins have already made this Raiders offense look considerably different.
Chargers Stats
Los Angeles produced 268 yards in the opener and scored only 14 points. Justin Herbert threw for 209 yards and a touchdown, but the offense repeatedly hurt itself with penalties, turnovers and failed fourth-down opportunities.
The opening drive was considerably prettier.
Los Angeles marched 77 yards for a touchdown, with Omarion Hampton finishing the drive on an eight-yard run. Ladd McConkey caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown before leaving with a rib injury.
The Chargers moved the ball well enough; unfortunately, they also spent Sunday inventing ways to stop themselves.
Defensively, Los Angeles allowed 393 yards and generated only one sack against Arizona. The Cardinals controlled possession for more than 37 minutes, while the Chargers failed to force a turnover.
Injuries are worth watching before Sunday.
McConkey did not practice Wednesday or Thursday because of the rib injury. Elijah Molden and Trey Pipkins III also missed both sessions, while Teair Tart improved from a Wednesday absence to limited work Thursday.
Raiders Stats
Las Vegas couldn’t have asked for much more from Kubiak’s debut. The Raiders scored 27 points, controlled the opening drive for nearly nine minutes and finished off Miami with contributions from the offense, defense and special teams.
Jeanty immediately looked comfortable as the centerpiece.
He finished with 147 yards from scrimmage and caught two touchdown passes from Cousins. The Raiders also got productive rushing work from Mike Washington Jr., giving the offense more than one way to move the chains.
The defense made life considerably less pleasant for Miami.
Las Vegas finished with five sacks, forced two turnovers and allowed the Dolphins to convert only two of 10 third downs. Kwity Paye made an immediate impact, while Nakobe Dean, Maxx Crosby and Folorunso Fatukasi all helped generate pressure.
Brock Bowers remains the biggest injury question.
The tight end missed the opener after knee surgery and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday this week. Jeanty, who is listed with an ankle injury, was a full participant both days.

Raiders vs. Chargers QB Matchup
Justin Herbert completed 20 of 31 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown against Arizona. He also added 29 rushing yards, but the Chargers never found a consistent offensive rhythm after their opening touchdown drive.
Herbert wasn’t the biggest problem.
Los Angeles committed seven penalties, turned the ball over twice and allowed a blocked punt that handed Arizona the ball at the Chargers’ 3-yard line. That’s a fairly ambitious list of self-inflicted damage for one afternoon.
Herbert and Cousins both need cleaner help around them, although Cousins contributed two interceptions himself.
Kirk Cousins completed 21 of 30 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns in his Raiders debut. He started 9-for-9 and directed a 93-yard opening touchdown drive, immediately looking comfortable in Kubiak’s offense.
The afternoon wasn’t spotless.
Cousins threw two interceptions, including one early in the third quarter that helped Miami cut the lead to five. Las Vegas responded immediately, and Cousins found Jeanty for another touchdown on the following possession.
Sunday brings a different challenge. Cousins gets his first road start as a Raider, while Herbert gets a chance to show that Week 1 was one ugly afternoon rather than the start of something more annoying.
Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers bottom line: the Raiders looked far cleaner in Week 1, but the Chargers have too much talent to spend another Sunday tripping over their own shoelaces without making bettors wonder whether the problem is bigger than one bad opener.

Here is my Chargers Raiders free pick: Chargers -6.5 is my play Sunday at SoFi Stadium. Los Angeles looked awful as a double-digit favorite in Week 1, which makes laying nearly a touchdown uncomfortable. I’m still willing to do it.
The Chargers moved the ball against Arizona but sabotaged themselves with turnovers, penalties and a blocked punt. Herbert has enough around him to punish Las Vegas if Los Angeles stops stepping on rakes. One ugly Sunday doesn’t erase the talent gap.
Las Vegas deserves credit for beating Miami.
Week 1 was ugly, but laying 6.5 is a bet on the Chargers fixing the self-inflicted nonsense.
The Raiders controlled the opener, but Cousins threw two interceptions while producing only 160 passing yards. Brock Bowers has missed both practices this week with a knee injury, and losing or limiting him would matter. Las Vegas won’t get the same margin for error on the road.
Los Angeles swept this matchup last season and returns home needing to avoid an 0-2 start inside the division. The Raiders are improved, but asking Cousins to trade scores with Herbert while Bowers’ availability remains uncertain is different than protecting a lead against Miami. I expect the Chargers to play cleaner football and create separation.
Chargers -6.5 is my play.
