Urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence are used to the national stage, and on Thursday their Jaguars team will get a rare primetime appearance in a visit to the Bengals. Maybe the less eyes would be the better right now for this Jacksonville team that has started off 0-3.
Joe Burrow and the Bengals also get their only primetime game of the season, barring a flex scheduling that is because Cincinnati is atop the AFC North coming into Thursday night’s tilt. The Bengals abused the Steelers last week, and have nice versatility on both sides of the ball.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville suffered a third straight loss last Sunday, each one being by double digits this season. The Jaguars just have a lot going on right now, missing two extra points last week vs. the Cardinals and scoring one of their TDs on a 109 yard return of a missed field goal.
Trevor Lawrence also threw an interception that was returned for a TD by Arizona, his 7th interception of the season which is tied with Zach Wilson for most in the NFL. The Jaguars put together an 8-play 75 yard scoring drive to take a 19-10 lead on Arizona, but they still couldn’t hold on even to cover the +8 point spread in a 31-19 loss.
Lawrence has to avoid mistakes on Thursday night, because you don’t want to give another former #1 pick Joe Burrow short field position. Meyer and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell also have to do a better job of mixing in the run. James Robinson carried the ball 6 times for 66 yards on the 75-yard scoring drive but had just 15 runs for 88 yards over the whole game.
It’s also looking like the Jaguars secondary is going to get exploited by the very accurate Burrow on TNF. Kyler Murray completed 28 of 34 passes last Sunday although Jacksonville did not allow a TD pass. Teddy Bridgewater hit on 26 of 34 passes the week before in a 23-13 Broncos win.
Cincinnati Bengals
Opponents are completing almost 75% of their passes against Jacksonville which is a situation Burrow should thrive in as he’s hit 70.7% of his throws so far through three games. Burrow did have another interception in the 24-10 win over the Steelers, giving him 4 in the last two weeks but that’s kind of a wash as Lawrence is almost guaranteed to give one or two back.
One of the major bright spots for the Bengals so far this season has been #5 pick Ja’Marr Chase, who was prematurely labeled a bust in the preseason before erupting for 4 TDs in his first three NFL games.
Chase is averaging 20 ypc so far this season, and that deep threat has helped open up the running game for Joe Mixon who is back from injury last season to run for 286 yards through three games. The Jags’ allowed 160 yards rushing to Houston in the opener, but have kept Denver and Arizona to under 100.
While the key to the game for Jacksonville is getting Robinson and the running game going, Cincinnati has also been very stingy in giving up just 78.3 yards/game on the ground. The Bengals can also rattle the young QB with some pressure, sacking Ben Roethlisberger 4 times last Sunday.

4* Free Week 4 NFL Betting Prediction: Bengals -7.5
One would think Meyer, Lawrence, and company are going to put things together for a complete game at some point this season. The big name coach and the highly coveted #1 pick are all used to playing in high stakes games, and this will be the first (and possibly last) chance fans get to see them on the main stage.
That being said, success in college and winning in the NFL are two different animals. The Jaguars defense doesn’t produce enough pressure or have good enough coverage to stop Burrow, who should be able to do whatever he wants in his own primetime showcase.
