The Indianapolis Colts are heading to Music City to take on the Titans at LP Field in Nashville this Sunday.
The Colts are coming off a very tough division loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday night and are currently in last place in a division they used to dominate.
The Tennessee Titans have won their last two after what looked early like it was going to be just another rebuilding year.
Now only one game out of the lead in the AFC South, the team that owned the number one overall pick last year can actually see the playoffs within their sites.
The Colts have been somewhat of an enigma over the last two years.
After advancing further into the playoffs for three years in a row, they have completely fallen off the map and show little sign of coming back.
The offense, led by quarterback Andrew Luck, is consistently good, but their defense has been hard to watch.
Depending on which side of the ball they are on, the Colts look like two different teams.
They rank 7th in the NFL in scoring with 26.7 point per game. Although they do not have much of a running attack, they also rank 14th in total yards per game.
On the other hand, they are abysmal defensively. They allow 29 points per game which is 28th in the league and 411.2 yards per game which is 30th.
The Titans seem to be hitting their stride midway through the season. The team has been irrelevant over the last few year and struggled to find an identity in the post-Jeff Fisher era.
Things looked grim at first as people rightfully wondered if Mike Mularkey would be another short-term head coach through yet another rebuilding period, but he seemed to hit a chord that resonated with the squad two weeks ago.
Although he still has some turnover issues, second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota is really beginning to shine and look like a franchise guy.
Perhaps the biggest contributor to his success has been the signing of DeMarco Murray and drafting of Derrick Henry. The Titans have the third best rushing attack in the league with 146.7 yards per game.
Dick LeBeau’s defense also plays a large role in their success.
They are 12th in the NFL in points allowed with 21.2 and 9th in total defense, allowing only 324 yard per game.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Colts are 2-3-1 ATS in their last 6
- Titans are 5-16 SU in their last 19
- OVER in 6 of Colts last 7
- OVER in 7 of Titans last 9
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Titans -2.5
The Titans have developed a three-headed rushing attack in Murray, Henry and Mariota that is unlike anything else in the league.
Considering the Colts terrible rushing defense, they have to be salivating in anticipation of getting at them.
The Indy offensive line has struggled to protect Andrew Luck throughout whole career, and things don’t look much better this year.
The Titans get after the quarterback as well as any team in football and are similarly salivating considering how badly Luck has beaten them in the past.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Indianapolis 24 – Tennessee 27
The Titans seem to be on their way up and the Colts may be headed in the opposite direction. For Tennessee, they are hoping this game will be the beginning of a changing of the guard in the AFC South.
