The Houston Texans are heading to the Sunshine State this Sunday to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in an AFC South showdown.
The Texans are currently in 1st place in the division and have a chance to extend their lead. They should be fresh and rested after coming off a bye last week.
The Jaguars have been struggling all year and are in last place in the AFC South.
They have lost three in a row, including a 19-14 loss to the Chiefs in Kansas City last week.
The Texans have improved greatly this year, mostly due to their stifling defense.
The offense has struggled under new quarterback Brock Osweiler, but the defense has made up for most of it, helping them get to 5-3 and first place in the AFC South.
The Texans offense ranks close to the bottom in most relevant statistical categories.
They are 30th in scoring offense (17.1 points per game) and also 30th in total offense (313.2 yards per game). Quarterback Brock Osweiler has thrown for 1,719 yards with nine touchdowns but also nine interceptions.
The running game has made up for much of it and ranks 11th in the league with 114.0 rushing yards per game.
The defense, on the other hand, has been great. They are 5th in total defense (316.2), 2nd in passing defense (190.5) and 12th in scoring defense (20.9).
Unfortunately for Jacksonville, this has been another typical Jags year.
They are last in the division and 2nd to last in the AFC, ahead of only the winless Cleveland Browns. Questions have risen about the job security of coach Gus Bradley and the future of quarterback Blake Bortles.
They have dropped their last three games by a combined 36 points. They improved slightly last week and were at least competitive at Kansas City but still lost 19-14.
The offense has been able to move the ball relatively well, averaging 345.5 yards per game which ranks 17th in the league.
However, they have been unable to convert that into points, ranking 28th in scoring offense with only 19.1 points per game. Bortles has thrown for 2,156 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 picks.
The story has been similar with the defense, ranking 11th in total D (334.5) but 25th in scoring D (26.9).
NFL Betting Trends:
- Texans are 6-0-1 ATS in last 7 against AFC South
- Texans are 4-1 ATS in last 5 against Jaguars
- Jaguars are 2-9 SU in last 11
- Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in last 5 against Texans at home
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Texans -1.5
The Texans have been far from perfect this year, but they have played well enough to hold 1st place in a weaker division.
This game should allow them to put more space between them and the Titans and Colts.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Houston 24 – Jacksonville 20
To say the Jags have struggled at home would be an understatement.
They have only one home win this year, but that was against divisional opponent Indianapolis. Because of the weak Houston offense, they should be able to keep this one close, but I don’t see them winning.
