This is a meaningless preseason game but will begin a month long cycle of wondering about the psyche of the Falcons coming off that epic Super Bowl loss.
For the Dolphins they are hoping to close the gap against the team that beat them, New England.

Kick off is set for 7:00 PM ET but it is hard to say how much of the principals we will see in this one. It is just the first week of the preseason after all.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons were a bit of a surprise last season, riding Matty Ice all the way to the Super Bowl. Before their MO had been to start fast and then fade.
A lot of the pieces from last year are still around on this current team but it is hard to recreate the magic, especially when your team loses key coaching personnel.

I would not expect to see too much of Matt Ryan in this one as he has nothing to prove.
It looks like his primary backup is going to be Matt Schaub and he is just the kind of experienced player who can shine in this kind of setting.
He is not going to make too many mistakes and keep the Falcons humming when he is on the field.
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins believe they are the team best positioned to challenge the dominance of New England in the AFC East. That may be true but being better than the Jets and Bills is a pretty low bar.
Not that I expect we will see much of him in this contest but I am not a fan of Ryan Tannehill at QB. (Via NFL.com – Adam Gase said Friday Aug 4th after practice there is no decision on whether Tannehill, who left practice Thursday after hurting his knee, needs surgery or merely rest. Both options are on the table, according to Gase.)
This team may not have a lot of weaknesses but its not like they are dominant in any areas either.

As the home team in this first preseason game you might get an extra series with the projected starters. It shouldn’t matter too much. Matt Moore is a very capable backup to guide the club.
Similar to Schaub above.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Miami ATS
If this were the regular season I would give the Falcons a great chance to win on the road but as it is they probably just go through the motions and come up short.
NFL Free Preseason Score Prediction: Miami 24 – Atlanta 17
Hard to tell who is going to be the star in these contests but both teams have pretty good RB depth so that might be a good place to start.
