This game features Tom Brady and the Lions traveling to Heinz Field to face off against the Houston Texans in a key game between AFC powerhouses.
Kick off is set for 1:00 PM ET with QB Matthew Stafford getting the start for the Lions against Brock Osweiler of the Texans.
Matt Stafford struggled for most of the game against a good Washington secondary, but delivered when it mattered most with a key game winning touchdown pass to Andre Johnson with under a minute left in the game.
He goes up against a Houston Texans defense that has been pretty good against quarterbacks the last two weeks.
The problem for the defense is they go up against a Lions team that likes to throw the ball, and I don’t think they can answer punch for punch. Look for Stafford to throw for over 300 yards and 3 scores in this one.
After struggling for 2 weeks Marvin Jones had a big game against Washington.
He hauled in 4 catches for 94 yards. He did not reach the end zone but did have a grab for 52 yards.
The secondary for Houston is overrated, and older, so look for the athletic Jones to beat the safeties down the field and get 2 touchdown grabs in this game.
The Lions defense didn’t win the game against the Redskins because of their defense.
They allowed Kirk Cousins to throw for over 300 yards and gave up another 100 total yards to the Washington rushing attack.
They face off against a quarterback being scrutinized every step f the way by the media, who doesn’t have a connection with his talented wideout.
Expect the Lions defense to dominate this one.
The Houston Texans took a huge risk in paying Brock Osweiler all that money in the offseason, and the decision may cost the head coach and GM their jobs.
He has played terrible all season long and his shouting match with DeAndre Hopkins is not endearing him to the Houston faithful. Last week he was 22-41 for only 131 yards against his former team.
This week he goes up against a weaker Lions defense but I don’t think he has the skill to make a good impact in this game.
As horrible as the QB play has been for the Texans, free agent signing Lamar Miller has been one of the best signings of the offseason by any team.
He wasn’t given the ball much in the game against Denver as he ran the ball just 11 times for 65 yards. If the Texans are smart they will give him the ball 25+ times.
He is averaging 4.2 yards per carry and I look for him to have a big game against the Detroit front seven is he gets a lot of touches.
DeAndre Hopkins is on pace to have his worst season since his rookie year.
The ineffective play of Osweiler has made it difficult for nay Texans receivers to get into a groove. Against the Broncos he caught 5 passes on 12 targets for only 36 yards.
If he and Osweilier can’t build a rhythm soon the Texans may end up blowing their chance at a division title.
