The Detroit Lions traded away one of their most beloved and dangerous skill position players during the week and then they went out on Sunday afternoon and looked like a team ready to mail it in this season against a division rival.
The Bears, meanwhile, put up a forty-burger in their win over Buffalo to get a fifth win before an important stretch of games begins.
The Lions reportedly offered Golden Tate an extension before they made the move to trade him, an offer that Tate, for whatever reason, turned down.
Perhaps it was about money, or perhaps it was about the Lions’ complete inability to put offensive lineman around Matt Stafford that will give their prized quarterback time to throw the ball downfield to guys like Tate.
Detroit allowed the Vikings to sack Stafford ten times in a 24–9 loss on Sunday. That’s a career-high for a guy who has been sacked a lot in his NFL career.
Part of the reason why is that the Lions completely failed to establish a running game, which let Minnesota’s pass rush come at Stafford ferociously and relentlessly.
The loss send the Lions into last place, further into last place, actually. They will play Chicago in two of the next three weeks and it looks like it isn’t the best time to get the Bears, who ride some momentum into the Week 10 tilt.
Chicago got forty-one points on Sunday but the offense didn’t do all of that. In fact, the Bears’ defense scored twice, once on a pick-six and the other on a fumble recovery.
That defense forced four turnovers against Buffalo’s offense, which was quarterbacked by Nathan Peterman because of injuries to Josh Allen and Derek Anderson.
The Bills actually out-gained Chicago, which mustered only 190 yards in total on the day. A lot of that has to do with the two defensive scores and the fact that Buffalo ran thirty-five more offensive plays than the Bears on the day. It was the first time a team scored that many points with such little yardage since 1966.
But not only did Chicago get a big win, it got healthier by keeping Khalil Mack and Allen Robinson out. Both are nursing injuries that had them questionable going into the game and both should return for this game after getting the extra week.
five of Chicago’s final eight games are against divisional opponents in a division that’s still up for grabs. I like Minnesota, but Chicago is still in first place and making things interesting in the North.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Chicago wins, covers? We’ll see.
The Bears are playing with some swagger and will have a confidence boost with Mack and Robinson returning. I’m not totally selling out on the Lions but, man, the offensive line is a mess. Bears by a field goal.
