The murky AFC West will get a little clearer after the Broncos and Raiders are done meeting up on Sunday. Both teams are 7-7 and trailing the 10-4 Chiefs who seemed destined for the division crown. Both squads are still just a game back in the wild card race though as well.
Denver looks like they’ll be without QB Teddy Bridgewater in this matchup after he was knocked out of last week’s 15-10 home loss to the Bengals. The Raiders offense isn’t exactly clicking though, pulling out a 16-14 win on Monday afternoon against a very shorthanded Cleveland team.
Bridgewater had guided the Broncos to a 7-7 start, but there are some fans who were less than impressed with the Denver offense that ranked 19th in the NFL in pass yards (217.4) and 21st in scoring (20.4).
Drew Lock came in to go 6/12 last week with 88 yards and a 25-yard TD pass to Tim Patrick. Bridgewater was just 12/22 for 98 yards and 0 TD before getting injured and at times his ultra-conservative approach was just a hard watch. Lock is more aggressive, and will benefit from a week practicing with the 1st team.
The Broncos’ defense played solid last week in holding the Bengals to 15 points. Joe Burrow was just 15/22 for 157 yards while Joe Mixon was held to 58 yards rushing on 17 carries. That bodes well prior to a matchup with a Raiders squad that was held to 17 points or less in six of the last seven.
Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas won almost by default last week, getting a 16-14 win in Cleveland in a game that was pushed back due to COVID rushing through the Browns locker room. Cleveland was down to 3rd string QB Nick Mullens who was 20/30 for 147 yards and a TD.
Derek Carr was 25/38 for 236 yards and a TD as the Raiders snapped a skid of losses in five of their last six games. There are still a lot of concerns with Las Vegas though, as the Browns win came with Cleveland having 18 players in health and safety protocols. The Raiders still needed a 48-yard Daniel Carlson field goal as time expired.
Denver has the #4 defense in total yards allowed (319.4 ypg) so it wouldn’t be a shock if the Raiders offense struggled yet again. Las Vegas did post a 34-24 win over the Broncos in week 6 behind 341 yards from Derek Carr, but that was also when the team had field stretcher Henry Ruggs (3 rec, 97 yards 1 TD) who has since been released.

4* Free Week 16 NFL Betting Prediction: Broncos +1
It will be interesting to see if Lock does indeed get the start on Sunday as he definitely brings a different dimension to the Broncos offense. This team has playmakers, but Bridgewater’s refusal to take chances makes the team very one-dimensional.
With a good run game, a strong defense, and actually the threat of throwing deep Denver could be a very dangerous team.
More struggles for the Raiders offense.
