Maybe the great defensive mind of New England’s Bill Belichick can be the one to solve Dallas QB Dak Prescott because through five weeks not a lot of other teams have been able to slow down the Cowboys offense. Dallas is riding a four game win streak and seemingly improving every week.
The Patriots meanwhile are having the ups and downs that you’d associate with starting a rookie QB to start the season. New England has been held to 17 points or less in three of five games this season which means maybe the Cowboys offense gets a bit of a break?
Dallas Cowboys
It’s a true chicken and egg situation because we don’t know if the Cowboys passing offense having success is opening up the running game or vice versa. Either way, Dallas fans will take it as the team ranks #2 in total yards, #2 in rushing, and #11 in passing offense so far in ’21.
To be honest the Cowboys ranking #11 in the pass almost appears kind of low because Prescott is putting up crazy numbers every week or so it would seem. The Dallas QB has 3+ TD pass in four of five games this season although New England’s defense does rank #5 in pass yards allowed.
If the Patriots do stop the run, there are worse options than feeding Zeke Elliott for Cowboys fans. The RB has found a resurgence with 5 TD the last four games and 253 yards on the ground the last two. Tony Pollard is letting Elliott stay fresh with 60+ yards rushing in four straight.
Dallas has put up some solid numbers on both sides of the football lately but it’s also important to remember that they’ve played their last three games at home. The Cowboys travel for the first time in nearly a month on Sunday so we shall see if that success travels.
New England Patriots
It looks like New England’s formula this year is going to be winning ugly. That’s what happened when they kicked four FGs in the 25-6 win at the Jets in week 2 and the scenario last week when the Patriots had to come back from 22-9 down to Houston for a 25-22 win.
The signature game so far this season for the Patriots is actually a loss, falling 19-17 at home in Tom Brady’s return to Foxborough in week 4. Pats’ QB Mac Jones completed 19 straight passes at one point in that game and New England held Brady without a TD pass. That’s the kind of potential New England has that makes them so dangerous to wager against.
You worry about the Belichick defense vs. Prescott angle but at the same time the Texans’ rookie QB Davis Mills torched the New England secondary for 312 yards and 3 TDs last week on 21/29 passing. That was Mills’ 3rd career start and he had thrown 4 INT the week prior vs. Buffalo.

4* Free Week 6 NFL Betting Prediction: Patriots +4.5
The public is going to be loving Dallas even on the road this week just because of how good that offense has looked the last couple weeks. That being said, the Cowboys are also playing an away game for the first time in nearly a month.
We’ve seen what New England can do in these ‘step up’ games like their 2-point loss to Tampa Bay at home a couple weeks ago.
