New city, new expectations for the Rams? We’re not sure a change of scenery can turn around another disappointing season, but there’s reason to believe the Rams can be more than competitive in the upcoming NFL season.
They face the injury-ravaged Dallas Cowboys on Saturday which is nursing multiple injured players and bettors jumped all over the early points spread line.
It opened at -3 for the Rams, but early action has seen that move out to -4.5 and it’s one-way action as we speak.
In front of what should be a roaring L.A crowd, the Rams will be wanting to see positive signs from their star 2016/2017 roster.
The Cowboys will likely field a sub-par team in its preseason opener against the Rams. Quarterback Tony Romo won’t be playing much part during the four-week preseason schedule and the enigmatic wide receiver Dez Bryant will likely spend the majority on the sidelines.
Backup quarterback Dak Prescott is tipped to start on Saturday with Jameill Showers waiting in the wings.
Prescott is a rookie out of Mississippi State who looks to have a good head on his shoulders, but unless Romo suffers another season injury, preseason will be the only time we see him in action.
Numerous other injuries threaten to stifle the Cowboys season, but they are still strong in the key roles and they typically find their best form when they play the Rams.
The last time the Rams defeated the Cowboys was in 2008 when the Rams were a nine-point underdog.
The Rams have plenty to be excited about this season and wide receiver Tavon Austin is just one of those reasons.
The four-year star out of West Virginia brings a high-energy spirit to the Rams which has been criticized of lacking in personality over the past few seasons. Austin is a full steam ahead type of player which can only help a Rams teams which has struggled through its rebuilding phase.
Coach Jeff Fisher is pleased with how his team has been practicing throughout the week and he has been tinkering with different defensive lineups which we will see in week one of the preseason against the Cowboys.
Good news for bettors of the Rams is that running back Todd Gurley will get a few reps on Saturday, but will be used sparingly.
No.1 draft pick Jared Goff is another reason to get excited about the Rams this season.
The California quarterback will take some getting used to in the NFL, but the signs are positive and by all accounts he’s getting used to calling NFL-style plays as opposed to the spread offense of Cal.
