The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are well rested and looking to exact a bit of revenge when the Chicago Bears come to town on Sunday afternoon. The Bears were actually able to upend TB 20-19 in week 5 last season at Soldier Field.
The last time we saw the Bucs was in a 28-22 win at the Eagles last Thursday night, giving Tom Brady and company a couple extra days to prepare for a Chicago team that is excelling on defense, but is still going through their usual offensive woes.
Chicago Bears
Chicago had a two game win streak snapped last Sunday in a 24-14 loss to the rival Green Bay Packers. The Bears defense didn’t play bad in holding GB quarterback Aaron Rodgers to 195 passing yards, but a Packers running game that amassed 154 yards on the ground did Chicago in at home.
Bears rookie QB Justin Fields had some struggles again, going 16/27 for 174 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Chicago failed to open up the passing game once again even despite 97 yards rushing and a TD from rookie Khalil Herbert. It’s possible the Bears get Damien Williams back from the COVID list to help Herbert in the backfield this week.
The problem for Chicago is still Fields though, who has a high water mark of 209 yards passing this season. He has just 2 TD to 3 INT on the season with a mere 53.5 completion percentage.
The Tampa Bay defense ranks #1 vs. the run this season (54.8 ypg) so for the Bears to have success it may come down to Fields and the passing game. Chicago had just 35 yards rushing in last year’s win over the Buccaneers but Matt Nagy would like a much more balanced attack in this contest.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The long rest after playing last Thursday could allow Tampa Bay to get some reinforcements back after Rob Gronkowski, Lavonte David, and Antoine Winfield, Jr. are all upgraded to questionable vs. the Bears.
Regardless of who goes for Tampa Bay, they have shown the depth that GM Jason Licht has put together with Antonio Brown having 217 yards receiving and 3 TD the last two weeks and Leonard Fournette going for 127 all purpose yards with 2 TDs last week vs. Cleveland.
The Bears rank 2nd in the NFL in sacks and they’ll try to put the pressure on Brady on Sunday afternoon. Khalil Mack had a couple of sacks on Brady in last year’s meeting and was also able to bring down Rodgers in last week’s game. Chicago is hoping Robert Quinn is cleared from COVID protocols in time for the Bucs game as he has combined with Mack for 11.5 sacks already this season.

Tampa Bay has an extra couple days to prepare for this game and are obviously the better team in this matchup but it’s tough to cover the 12.5 in an NFL game. The Bears offense is vomit inducing, but their defense can at least keep this one close.
Fields is raw, but still has some upside especially with the Bucs ranking 27th in the league giving up 280.8 ypg through the air. Herbert looked good on the ground last week and Williams is likely back to get some carries in the backfield as well.
The only thing that scares you in this one is Brady being in revenge mode after last year’s loss at Soldier Field.
