Each 5–7 and one game out of the final NFC Wild Card spot, the Falcons and Panthers will meet in Carolina in Week 14.
The winner will stay in the hunt. The loser will be all but mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Carolina won the first matchup of these two teams on the road back in Week 8.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons hosted Tampa Bay last week and hung tough in the first half, thanks to an interception returned for a touchdown just before the two teams went into the locker room for halftime.
The underdogs went quietly in the second, however, getting outscored 10–0 in an eventual 30–17 loss.
Matt Ryan started hot and finished 30 out of 41 for 297 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown, nor an interception, but took five sacks on the day.
The backfield combination of Cordarrelle Patterson and Mike Davis finished with 110 yards on just 17 carries, most of which came in the first half. Davis scored Atlanta’s opening touchdown on a 17-yard scamper to tie the game at seven.
Russell Gage continued to be the top passing target with Calvin Ridley out. He caught 11 of 12 targets for 130 yards.
But Atlanta’s defense couldn’t stop Tampa Bay’s passing attack, especially Chris Godwin, who shredded the secondary for 143 yards on 15 catches.
Tom Brady started the game with 13 consecutive passes and finished 38 for 51 for 368 yards and four more touchdowns.
The Falcons won’t have to deal with another aerial attack like Tampa Bay’s in Week 14 when they travel to Carolina.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina had its bye in Week 13 after getting trounced in Miami the week prior.
Head Coach Matt Rhule continued to use dual quarterbacks and, like the old adage goes, when you have two quarterbacks, it really just means you don’t have one.
Neither Cam Newton nor PJ Walker topped 100 yards passing. Newton was especially atrocious, finishing 5 out of 21 for 92 yards and two interceptions. He did run in a touchdown but was a non-factor on the ground otherwise.
Walker went 5 of 10 and threw a pick as well. He took four sacks in his little time under center.
Christian McCaffrey only handled 10 carries because the Panthers got so far behind and had to abandon the running game. Perhaps more concerning was that he didn’t catch a pass and was only targeted with one throw.
DJ Moore got most of the attention in the passing game with 10 targets. He caught only four of those 10 but did make the most of them to rack up over 100 yards.
Sam Darnold was the starter in Carolina’s Week 8 win at Atlanta but he wasn’t much effective in the passing game.
Carolina pounded the rock with Chuba Hubbard (24 carries, 82 yards) and even gave Ameer Abdullah and Royce Freeman a combined 14 carries.
Expect more ground game in this rematch with McCaffrey available now. But Atlanta will be looking for it. This has the makings of an ugly, physical football game where only one team will come out with any hopes of making the postseason.

4* Free Week 14 NFL Betting Prediction:
The key in this game will be Atlanta’s offense against Carolina’s defense.
Matt Ryan couldn’t get the ball downfield in the first matchup of the two teams and, in fact, he has struggled with that all season.
Coming off the bye, Carolina should be better prepared to stop Atlanta again and win a game on its home field, however much it has struggled at its home venue this year.
